Maybe in a couple of years, they can be traded for each other.
If the dopes in Edmonton were actually wise, they would've made this signing well before considering Hyman at his price.

Defensively (including up front) they're a disaster for a team eyeing a chance to "compete".

Given Mang's age, we'd be lucky to get him for $5M and 6 years. I'd expect that goes higher.

So he is in the average range and is average weight… he is not a small player (Johnny) and sure doesn’t play small

Never scored a lot. Not that big. Overrated probably due to a couple Cups with Tampa.

Looks to me like we’re paying 2nd line dollars for a 3rd liner.
Coleman's 31 pts in 55 GP are second line numbers.

Hyman doesn’t have a little more offence IMO. He scored more with bigger minutes, playing with elite linemates. In NJ, on a second line, Coleman put up very similar numbers. Coleman produces Hyman-like numbers with lesser linemates and could well pop with Mangiapane and Backlund (or with a healthy Monahan and, say, Dube, on a second line). He also is more versatile - he plays every forward position. And yes, better defensively.

And is essentially coming off 3 20-goal seasons.

Adding tough players

When is he going to add scoring?

I hate the term but I'll just keep watching highlights like this to bring up the positivity.

He's above average weight though. He's built like a bowling ball, and his style is to push through taller lankier players.

I'm sure this has been posted before, but watch his highlight reel. Almost every goal is him driving the net, and typically through at least one d-man. Coleman is not a small player.

And you didn't even mention the worst part - the ridiculous term.

Yeah, as long as you are close to 6 feet, heft is more important.

Huge mistake. I like Coleman, but he's not a center. He may be listed as one, but he hasn't been used as one in any meaningful way since 17-18 and absolutely cannot be counted on in the dot. He's genuinely not good at faceoffs.

He's a winger who can play the center role in spot duty. You can't replace Backlund with Coleman.

Yeah but not very good numbers for 2nd liner

But hopefully Treliving is smart enough to know that he is not looking for scoring from Coleman

Ps: I like Coleman

My hope is this deal is similar to the Tanev one where we really will appreciate what Coleman brings once we watch him every game.

I don't necessarily disagree.

But I'm just amazed how depressing you are.

The point that contenders don't sign players like this to contracts... That is true. But what they do is trade 1st round picks and high end prospects for them at the trade deadline

I like this a lot. Term is a year or two high, but whatever.

Fantastic two-way player with heart and grit. Puts up good points, practically all 5-on-5.

His numbers are great especially when you consider he had 0 powerplay time.

A little disingenous. Oshie and Killorn are both PP1 players on two of the most dangerous PPs in the world. Tuch isn't 30 years old either.

We are not shedding Backlund's contract.

People need to understand what Sutter likes. He likes two way forwards, the two signings this Summer reinforce that. If Sutter could build a team with 12 Backlunds, he would.

Just be happy that he seems to be ok having Gaudreau on the team.
