Most underrated goalie in the league for several years. Great signing by the Canucks.

Wouldn't want to figure out how to split that remaining cap but this is a good pickup.

He's a hell of a lot better than Holtby.

Seriously you guys should go on Capfriendly and do some armchair GM teams for the Canucks and Oilers. It's very funny.
Maybe I'm missing something then. Based on Capfriendly, right now they have:

Forwards (including Sutter + Ferland) $33.12M
Defense: $14.185M
Goalies (including Halak's base salary): $6.5M
Dead cap space/prior bonus overages: $4.23M

So that's $58.04M, which is about $23.5M in space plus up to $3.5M in LTIR space. I'm assuming they're using the bonus cushion for Halak to push any reached bonuses to next year's cap.

Have to think Halak believes he has a chance to outplay Demko

Capfriendly doesn't demote / promote players to fill out a lineup. Go ahead and try it. Armchair GM is right there. Tell me what you come up with. Because I'm seeing between 12-13M for Pettersson and Hughes combined.

Looks like they got Poolman at 2.5, not seeing them having any cap issues this year.
Defence might not be great defensively but who knows, sometimes a pairing just clicks. A lot of the analysis on players on here is based on the individuals stats, still a team game

Forwards ($29.6M):

Boeser
Horvat
Miller
Garland
Pearson
Motte
Sutter
Hoglander
MacEwan
Highmore

Defense ($20.5M):

Ekman-Larsson
Myers
Hamonic
Poolman
Rathbone
Schenn

Goalies ($6.5M)

Demko
Halak

Dead Cap Space/Players on LTIR ($7.2M)

Ferland
Luongo penalty
Virtanen + Holtby buyouts
Prior bonus overage

So that's a total of $63.8M, putting them $17.7M under the cap, plus they have Ferland's $3.5M in LTIR space available with the following to sign:

Pettersson
Hughes
Dickinson
Juolevi
Depth forward

The bottom 3 on that list are probably $4-4.5M combined, leaving about $13.4M under the cap and nearly $17M under their LTIR upper limit for Pettersson and Hughes.

I think the disconnect actually was Ferland - I had him on LTIR, but during the season, the Armchair GM feature assumes people on IR aren't taking up cap space. During the offseason it assumes they do. So yeah - extra 3.5M. Darn... I thought they were screwed.
