Sigh. If Ritchie signs for anything less than $3 and we sign coleman for almost $6, I’m going to be upset.

Everybody wants players but is scared to pay the cost of acquiring them.

This rumor won't stop. We're gonna get Coleman, and I'm going to hate the contract. Its inevitable.

I choose to believe we haven't lost our marbles on this potential deal, and it won't be disgusting.
Because surely, management has learned its lesson by now.

You know, if we come out of this day with Ritchie, Coleman, and Zadorov, and have the numbers balance out ($11-12M), I would consider that a good day and the team improved.

But let's consider Calgary specifically
- One of the smaller NHL cities
- Probably considered to have less culture overall and less 'things to do'
- One of the worst climates to live in amongst Canadian cities
- One of the worst performing franchises over the last 3 decades including recent years.
- Oldest building in the league.
So what's the selling point? That's a bad combo of factors. Calgary simply ranks amongst the lowest teams in terms of where guys want to go. And as much as we hate it - Edmonton at least has the McDavid selling point

The Flames are not signing a 29 year old coming off a 1.9/yr contract to 6 million….he is still a 3rd line guy.

Yep, this is all on point.
and 100% why this team should not be in free agency outside of the deals that actually work - which are the bargain signings.

So sounds like there’s a good chance he’s coming to the flames. You always overpay in free agency. Otherwise players would just stay on the same team.
It sounds like he will add value and provide things we don’t have. So bottom line is no one will like the contract. But if you want what he brings you pay it and move on. If you don’t like it bring up one of our prospects from the heat to do the same thing.

GOAT!

I wonder if teams/agents purposely leak things like "Coleman wants 6m a year" to the media. That way they can sign him for 5m, and the narrative is "good deal" instead of "5m for Coleman?!"

He's going to Dallas. He gets his market value from negotiating with Calgary and then takes less in Dallas as they have no state income tax.
