I wouldn't go nuts, but I'd be oddly happy with this considering a few years ago I could care less if he was retained. Great last half of the year for him here.

IF....if Monahan goes in a trade package to Buffalo (Kevyn Adam's adores Monny) then the remaining pieces lessen IMO. And that may be the hang up on getting a deal done.despite the utter nonsensical disdain for Monahan by many around here, he has a ton of value with 2 years left.
Just my two cents.
But, if it took replacing Kylington with Valimaki in my proposal, I'd do that.
Then find a deal for either Monny or Backlund in a separate trade.

Not doubting you, but where did you hear that Adams likes Monahan?
If true, I feel better about our chances of not having to include Tkachuk in a potential deal.

We could do worse than Bozak as a 4th line C on a million cap hit or so no?
He still wins 56% of face offs, not a bad thing to have in your pocket

year over year, he is very consistently in the mid 50s since 2014. One of the best in the league

* Top-4 LHD: Suter > McCabe > Murray > Edler
* Backup Goalie: Mrazek > Bernier > Brossoit

Wonder if Buffalo is holding off on the trade hoping that more teams will enter into the race for eichel after all the free agent options are gone. That could push the team already in the mix to add to their offers.

I'd like Ullmark as the #2. But there's a ton of options so they'll land a good one.
O.Kase, Gusev, Bobby Ryan, A.Nylander, Sharangovich all options hopefully. Couple of RFAs and UFAs there.

I just realized the UFA list I was reading from the Athletic was pre-qualifying offers not being given to RFAs.

I was thinking Murray too given the age, size and fit, but the Blue Jackets, under Tortorella, a defense first coach with a highly structured system, traded him to NJ last year for a 5th round pick.
I get the high draft pedigree but maybe he's just not good?
He has age on his side, but I don't think he's ever been as good as Edler was in his prime and it's questionable if he's better than old Edler now.
