PIT has inquired about Lucic—looking to make hockey trade for grit (maybe w/ Zucker)
https://theathletic.com/2732282/2021...-availability/
Quote:
After gaining some cap relief by trading forwards Jared McCann and losing winger Brandon Tanev in the expansion draft, Hextall would rather trade away [Marcus] Pettersson, [Mike] Matheson or [Jason] Zucker through hockey trades. Basically, he wouldn’t want to merely dump either of those players in exchange for likely lower-round future draft picks and salary-cap space, but rather address a perceived need for the Penguins.
|
Quote:
Sources say the Penguins have had conversations with several teams. These are those teams and players about whom the Penguins inquired, with varying degrees of interest:
Arizona Coyotes: goalie Darcy Kuemper and left winger Christian Dvorak
Anaheim Ducks: left winger Rickard Rakell
Calgary Flames: left winger Milan Lucic
Detroit Red Wings: left winger Tyler Bertuzzi
Vegas Golden Knights: goalie Marc-Andre Fleury
|
Quote:
The Penguins would appear to be set at left wing in their top six with Jake Guentzel and Zucker.
But with Zucker said to be available, it would make sense for Hextall and Burke to explore potential replacements. Though not all of the players on this list project as top-six left wingers, at least a few would likely add that “gritty, sandpaper element”, Hextall told The Athletic he would like to add going into the upcoming season.

Lucic for Zucker? This would be, in a word, wacky.

I would love to get that contract off the books but imagine we lose Gio to Seattle, trade Lucic to Pitt and send Tkachuk away in a blockbuster we are the softest team in the league by far.

Not if you sign Nick Ritchie!

If we sign Ritchie I guess we could send him away but I am kinda worried about the physical presence of the team if he isn't there.

If Lucic is going, it would be for Matheson, I would think.

why would the Flames trade Lucic for a worse player signed for three more years?

The only way Pitt is taking lucic is if we are adding draft picks. Also I doubt Sutter wants Lucic gone.

So Pitt would only take him if picks were added, but Sutter won't let him go.
I don't even think people are consciously aware of how ridiculously biased against the Flames they are.

in Zucker's worst season since 2013ish, he had two fewer goals and five fewer points than Lucic in 18 fewer games
he's four years younger and would only cost the Flames $250k more
he was also very good prior to this past season — 20+ goals five out of the previous six seasons and a fantastic play-driver. I think it'd be a very sensible bet for the Flames

Matheson had a solid year for Pittsburgh, he’s 27, and signed for 5 years at less than $5M.
+8 his last two seasons, and a dependable 0.32 PPG for his career.
I like Looch and what he brings, but this might not be the worst road to go down if we’re looking to add veteran D.

We know Tre has some tunnel vision. Sees a guy, wants him on the team, stays on it. This fits. I'd just be somewhat surprised that Lucic is moved. He of the immovable contract moved twice during the back end of it ?

Some sort of Lucic/Zucker swap would make me very happy.

Don’t know what’s hard to understand. Sutter is not the gm but probably wants lucic on the team next year. No team is trading assets for lucic.
