Interesting that Nurse takes a deal that expires at 31 unless he is thinking 8 years next deal until he's 39. You usually would need to take less in that situation but it probably gets him over paid for many years as well

Which is amazing and hilarious. But, I get it—they really have no choice at all but to push all their chips in for now with the wonder-twins on the roster. The best part about this, though is that the Oilers haven't won a single playoff game in over four years, and their 39-year-old goalie is coming off of his best season in a decade.

In order to keep the cap manageable for the four-year window. I think it is a clear recognition that anything beyond McDrai's four remaining years together is completely meaningless.

Or, that Holland has astutely determined that Hyman is the one piece that he will build around, 4 years from now, for Hollandaze 2.0
He isn't sure why, but Hyman just gives him a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Would he even have to hint? One has to imagine that there's been a bit of contract remorse with the McDavid's. Will Draisaitl be an Oiler by the time McDavid's contract is expiring? You can see why Holland is signing RNH and Hyman to these long term contracts in hopes of immediate success over the next few years.
