I think we should do this first and foremost. Afterwards if EP40 signs then we can pursue Eichel.

I'd say he's almost worth that now and in year or two it will be fair value for sure. It makes so much sense but none of the GMs have the guts to do it.

I mean it’s about the same length of contract for the same price, giving up less assets. While Eichel is a tier above, we don’t know that with his injury anymore. And like I said, we get to screw over the Canucks if they match.

If it screws them over, wouldn't it screw us over even more?

The Flames have slightly more cap flexibility than the Canucks do.
...But not enough to add $10 mill without losing any cap.

If the Flames were ever going to offer sheet someone, it should have been Brayden Point before he signed a steal of a deal with Tampa (while they had no cap space).
If they didn't sign Point then, they definitely wouldn't sign Pettersson now.

Not necessarily. Canucks would likely match but the Flames would dictate the contract terms, probably limiting what the Canucks can do with Hughes. If the Canucks don't match I would be fine with taking Petterson for the picks as he's only 22 and the organization doesn't have a talent like him in the system. Good fit for him with the Calgary Swedish connection and Tanev. It's not going to happen because NHL GM's generally don't offer sheet other teams RFA's probably because it's known that most will match and it just drives up the salaries for everyone.

I heard reported on the radio that Point didn’t want to be anywhere else but Tampa.

I’m sure we could trade Monahan in a separate deal.

I know Montreal and Dallas both approached Point with offer sheets but he was set on staying in Tampa (for obvious reasons).

I don't like it. Pettersson has never played a full season and has never scored at a 1.00 pts/gp pace. He looks great when he is "on," but I worry that he is broken too often, and over time will be broken more frequently.

Maybe the Flames should just sign Savard since we have so many raw LD. Give each of them a strong partner.
 Hanifin - Andersson
 Kylington - Tanev
 Valimaki - Savard

Mix and match as chemistry and performance dictate.

I prefer that over adding a LD who just buries a kid.

If that's the case, then by all means we do NOT want to offer-sheet Pettersson. The biggest favour we could do the Canucks would be to get Benning fired!

Tomorrow is probably going to be a big day as teams set their tables for FA day.
Hopefully the Flames have somethings figured out.
