Wasn't the writing kind of on the wall when they hired Alex Burrows?
The wall was there. Burrows and a bunch of other guys covered it in graffiti.

‘You see in Calgary, [Ryan] Huska is no joke. It’s good. He’s really set on a specific model defensively. If you can be reliable, you have the freedom to play offence. Now playing for Rand, who is a pretty similar style, I think earning his trust in the d-zone has been something I’ve been progressively trying to do.’

I would not trade Dahlin for Marner. TBH Marner has almost negative value at this point, despite the hype from Toronto media. About $4million overpaid and invisible in the playoffs.
Good lord. With what was just paid for Seth Jones and Ristolainen?
All those saying go for this guy. He finished one full game last season, and left two due to concussion issues. It's basically another Michael Ferland situation. Canucks signed him knowing his concussion history and took a chance on him, he's played all of 14 games on a 4 year contract and has since been on IR.

But can he play?

Kase is almost becoming more of a legend. He isn't much more productive than Ritchie outside of 1 season. 20 goals absolute best Kase scenario if he were ever healthy isn't that much better than Ritchie.

Sure. Sign him to a one year 900k contract then. If he manages to stay healthy you get one hell of a bargain.
Travis Yost proposes Marner to Buffalo for Rasmus Dahlin.
The Flames don’t have a young stud D-man to offer, but maybe a package of a signed Gaudreau with one of Anderson, Hanifin or Valimaki? Balanced as needed with picks
Marner is a damn skilled player. If you pair him with someone who can protect him he can be even better. The Leafs, IMO, would be nuts to deal him just to get a d-man back. I'm not about to call Rasmus a bust, because he's young, but he's not Hedman. He'll likely be a #1, but he still gets beat. Leafs should be dealing one of their four but based on 2 bad playoffs, Marner and Matthews should be the guys you build around. I'm not sure what value Tavares has, but I think the pecking order for deals should be Tavares>Nylander>Marner>Matthews. If anything Leafs should explore two 2nds and Nylander for Rasmus. Dangling Nylander to get a skilled big could really turn the Leafs fortune. Something like Nylander for Giroux could give the Leafs just what they want.
Kase is not a good pick, he’s got severe concussions problems as others have said and outside of 1 20g season he hasn’t done much since. Yea RHS RW but often injured and not someone we should burn a contract and cap on, use it on something more steady/surefire to play.
