Not with Darryl
He wouldn’t even tank meaningless games after we were eliminated

I dont mean completely rebuild because it isn't happening but if the trade 1 of Gaudreau or Tkachuk they can get a lot of assets back and maybe plug some holes and get more prospects that will help in the future.

So the owners should be happy to flush $10M down the crapper and waste a year of a contract? So we only get four years of Eichel in your scenario?

I would certainly hope we have a condition on the 1st we’d be trading back to Buffalo in the trade.

At the end of the last Trade thread lots of talk of graduating up guys like Phillips, Ruzicka and Gawdin…… we have way too positive of light on our prospects. These guys are PTO fodder in the rest of the league guys come on. Gawdin is a plug, looked completely lost in the time he got into the line up. Probably need to give another brief, and very brief, look at Phillips. Everyone always compares him to other small guys such as Yamamoto or Caufield, but he isn’t in that class. He isn’t strong enough on this skates relative to those other guys so probably won’t be able to transition to the NHL. These are a group of career AHLers, let’s accept that and quit putting them on pedestals like they are the next group of saviours.

I am hoping Eichel goes to Anaheim.
And that their 2022 and 2023 1sts are part of the package to get him.

Your take I think is too heavy handed. I agree to an extent on Phillips, he has all the skill but doesn't have the mass for the NHL....so far.
Gawdin has seen NHL time, hasn't done much with it and I don't think he has the extra gear for a full time role. Just my opinion.
But I think you're dead wrong on Ruzicka. Flames seem really high on him and for good reason. Size, skating, skill he has all the important bits ready to go. Needs consistency in his game.
I do think he is a prime candidate for the 4th line C role this year. They make him work for it but I think it's his.

Have there been any rumblings about where Montour will sign? Wouldn't mind giving him a shot here.

Skill wise, he may be better, but his size and strength limitations really hold him back.

Before anyone suggests it, the Flames absolutely should not consider Athanasiou. He might be the laziest player I have ever seen live. My bet is he is going to be back in Switzerland this season.

You're not wrong, but keep in mind that after Maniapane's first 10 NHL games there were people on this board who said the similar things about him.
These kids just got their first taste of NHL hockey. I wanna see how they respond to that, and see if they can continue to grow, before I write them all off.

Yes . I guess Eichel can get his money from the insurance right? Or don't spend full cap hit.
And about those young guys. I'm not saying those are future super stars, but if they deserve it, try to bring them in and check how they play instead of bringing some support players from outside.

Sounds like Chicago may not qualify Pius Suter. Could be an option.

I’d say these younger guys are better options than older UFAs, depending on the contract.

Most likely they didn't want to deal with an arbitration award.
If you see a good player with arb rights not get a QO in the next few hours, it is usually the case the team does not want an arbitration award they cannot walk away from and screw up their cap structure.
They will still probably try and sign him.

Except Mangiapane dominated the AHL and there was year over year progression. I don't know you can say that about these 3 guys. Stats aren't everything but if you can't average a point per game in the AHL as an expected point producer, there's going to be a lot of hesitation.
Phillips and Ruzicka have good skills though, they "look" like they have NHL talent, but they also need to put up the points. If they can put up a point per game season in the AHL this year, I think they deserve a legitimate crack at the roster the following season.
Gawdin projects as a bottom six guy so points shouldn't be the main measure but he did have a near point per game pace in the AHL in 2019-2020 so I actually think he should be the 13th forward in Calgary this year and play maybe 40 games switching in and out of the line up with a veteran like Trevor Lewis.
But yeah, I don't think the 3 of them have much value in trades. Ruzicka maybe a bit more than the other two, due to the projection.
