Send Tuch and Smith back as part of the package and that covers Eichels salary. Add in Peyton Krebs, Luke Cormier and next years 1st...i think you have everything you need.

Personally I would say 5M in space is worth a first. So equivalent to a first, two B prospects (Gawdin and Phillips) for Marchessault and a B prospect (Dugan). There really arn't a lot of teams that could eat that cap. Seattle didn't do too many favours.

Gawdin and Phillips are not B prospects. These guys are tweeners that are at the point of needing one way deals and have no waiver protection. They’re close to washing out as prospects so have no value to a team looking to dump salary. They would much rather just take draft picks and move on. They have much better players who could step in and take a slot if pressed.

Not sure if it's discussed here, but Hjalmarsson is retiring. I thought he could've been a great option at replacing Gio. Hope he enjoys his retirement.

Per source, Coyotes UFA D Niklas Hjalmarsson is retiring. I don't expect a formal announcement or statement from Nik. Those who have covered him or known him know that is not his style. He was an integral part of 3 Stanley Cups in Chicago and the consummate pro on/off the ice.

Not a superstar by any means, but Matt Calvert quietly retired the other day as well. I always thought he was a decent 3rd/4th liner.

Yeah, I would actually give Suter 4 years as I think he ages fine - but the annual has to be fairly low.

GM Don Waddell reiterated Sunday in an interview with me that he’s not giving up on re-signing Hamilton.

“We’ve had conversations with (Hamilton’s agent) J.P. Barry about Dougie,” said Waddell. “He has said all along, ‘Let’s get through the draft.’ We’re going to talk more today about where this is going, where this is headed. He has a pretty good idea about what the market is at this point. So, our goal still is to bring Dougie back. Again, we’re not trying to save money, we’re a cap team; we want to put the best team on the ice that we can. So the AAV is important to us.”

Plus, the Kraken plan to be players once free agency opens Wednesday, perhaps more so than Vegas was on July 1, 2017, when the Golden Knights were rather quiet (other than signing the likes of Brad Hunt, Stefan Matteau and Maxime Lagace).

“That was the fit that we sought. When he became available, those are the type of players we have to go out and get our hands on,” added Zito.
