So as of right now the Flames have $18.625M in projected cap space.
If the trade is my proposed one above (Monahan + Valimaki for roster players), then it's just a swap of Monahan's $6.375M for Eichel's $10M.
So we'd have $15M in cap space with:
Gaudreau - Eichel - Tkachuk
_____ - Lindholm - Mangi
_____ - Backlund - Pitlick
Lucic - Froese - Ritchie
Hanifin - Tanev
Andersson - _____
_____ - _____
Markstrom
_____
$15M to sign RFAs: Dube, Gawdin, Kylington, Mackey, then fill out the roster with UFAs and/or prospects like Zary/Pelletier/Ruzicka
Stone is another cheap RD option after a surprisingly good showing last season. Dube is probably $1.5-$2M?

|
I'm hoping for this outcome as well, the only thing is how do you move in the direction of a rebuild right after hiring Sutter? Worst case would be for the Flames to decide on a rebuild, ship big names out, and the Sutter is able to pus what's left to a middle of the field finish for the next two years.

Tkachuk+Zary+2022 1st.
Maybe something else in there like another 2nd.
Shift Monahan to the wing.
Gaudreau-Eichel-Eat Bread
Coleman-Lindholm-Monahan
Lucic-Backlund-Pitlick
???-Gadwin-Dube
I might have the wings wrong.

Sorry. I rather have MT, CZ, and a 2022 first over Eichel.
I would not give up more than Tkachuk and a pick. Eichel is good but he is not worthy of a Lindros type package.

I believe Eichel is the hold up before we start seeing moves happen.
Tkachuk, 2022 first, Eat Bread for Eichel
Monahan for Dvorak
Coleman signs
Barrie Signs (I think Treliving sneaks in and grabs him)
Top 6
Gaudreau - Eichel - Dvorak
Dube - Lindholm - Coleman
Top 4 D
Anderson - Barrie
Tanev - Hanifin
Team looks okay if those deals happened is it a cup contender nope.

Enough with Mony for Dvorak.
Monahan is worth two Dvoraks. We would feel very stupid next season for making that exchange, I guarantee that.

Especially considering that Eichel is already a $10 million dollar player. If we were acquiring pre-peak earning years, that would be different. Might as well try the free agency route first if we are going to pay that much.

Just got back from taking the dog for a walk and came up with this 4 team trade that I think makes everyone happy but need a couple of details ironed out.
Calgary trades: Tkachuk, Dube, 22 1st
Calgary receives: Eichel (maybe more?)
St Louis trades: Tarasenko, Kyrou, 22 1st
St. Louis receives: Tkachuk
Buffalo trades: Eichel, (retain 50% on Tarasenko) (maybe more)
Buffalo receives: Dube, Kyrou, CGY 22 1st, STL 22 1st, (random team) 22 1st
Random team trades: 22 1st
Random team receives: Tarasenko 50% retained.
I thought about adding Oloffson to the Flames but held off. Also not sure Tarasenko at 50% gets a 1st so that could be conditional 2nd that turns into a 1st based on Tarasenko’s performance?
Buffalo gets 2 young guys they plug in right away and 3 1st for next year.
St. Louis gets their guy and dumps Tarasenko with no retention opens up a chance to take a run at Landeskog.
4th team gets Tarasenko for 2 years at 3.75

What about extending Tkachuk then retaining a pencent similar to OEL to help facilitate the Eichel trade (if his 9M QO is seen as risky).

Absolute most I would do is:
Tkachuk
One of Zary/Pelletier/Valimaki
2022 1st
A second round pick or a B prospect like Petterson or Phillips
To me, the first three pieces are already more than enough. I think that is probably the closest Buffalo will get to their asking price.
Not opposed to trading Mangiapane in place of 1 or 2 of the above pieces but I think he’s an important guy for where the Flames team culture wants to go.

If either or both of the 2022 or 2023 1sts are traded they MUST be lottery protected.
If Eichel's neck doesn't recover and the team tanks.....

You have to keep the buffalo part on the down low.

Filling in your gaps with
Dube $2 mill
Coleman $4 mill
Pelletier $900k
Mackie $900k
Stone $1.5 mill
Kylington $1.2 mill
Vet backup goalie $2 mill
Vet D $2.5 mill
Defense might be a little suspect. But I think offense would be better.
A few guys would also be playing out of place.

Completely depends on Monny returning to full health, which none of us really have a handle on.
Which makes a Monny trade before the season unlikely.

That’s actually pretty good.
I could see everyone being satisfied.
Although huge difficulty in completely a 4 player deal of course.

Dvorak’s ceiling is average Sean Monahan, not the really good Sean Monahan we have seen in the past. Just makes no sense. Dvorak right now would be our 4th best center (including Lindholm). I don’t understand the love…

Dvorak is way cheaper though and allows you to do something else.
