True. I guess I probably sounded pretty dumb asking that question. I was thinking more in terms of emotional intelligence. But I guess it was probably just an organizational decision because of Fox.

Lol this thread was both funny to read and also a complete waste of time with the dumb remarks about someone not signing here.
Adam Fox and Matthew Coronato are two different people. Just because they will or have gone to Harvard at some point in their life doesn’t mean that they’ve got the same mentality.
As a recent example and a similar player that scores goals, did Cole Caufield stay in Wisconsin until he was UFA? No, in fact, he was a force in the playoffs for Montreal.
Did Gaudreau? No, he signed with us. And look where he is now. I’m sure Gaudreau could be a mentor to Coronato since Coronato looks up to Johnny (or down if we’re talking literally)! Coronato is smart enough to look at the roster and see Calgary’s glaring need for a goal scoring right-handed shot player. Assuming he pans out to what he’s capable of, he would be paid handsomely here.
Yes, you’ll get those few like K. Hayes, Vesey, Fox, who want to choose where they play. It’s unfortunate, but that’s just how it goes. I’m just happy we have a great scouting group that is able to find these gems.
Do I wish Fox were here? Of course. Will I dwell on it? Hell no, there’s nothing I can do about it.

I think a fair number of fans sometimes forget that hockey players actually have a mentality. We keep hearing things like this: ‘Joe Bftsplk signed a UFA contract with the Banff Fighting Squirrels for only X dollars. We could have offered him more! Fire our GM!’ —Talking as if free agency is an auction, and each player is compelled to go to the highest bidder. No, sport, that's not what ‘free’ means.
Or the ever popular, ‘Banff traded Joe Bftsplk to the Harrisburg Squonks for a second-round pick and Player X. We could have offered our second and Player Y! That's totally a better deal! Fire our GM!’ —Talking as if all teams are in the same circumstances and all GMs must have the same assessment of players' relative values. Maybe the Harrisburg guy legitimately prefers Player X to Player Y. Maybe he is a bigot who thinks Y's breath stinks because he had a grandparent who ate garlic sausage. Who knows? What we do know is that our GM had no way of forcing Harrisburg not to make that trade with Banff.
Assuming that all college-bound players, or even all Harvard-bound players, want exactly the same thing and will go exactly the same way about getting it? That's another form of the same malady.

Further to what I said above: In one of the interview videos, Coronato was asked why he was going to Harvard. He gave all his praise to their hockey program and their coach, and didn't say anything about the value of an Ivy League degree. It could actually be the case that he's going to Harvard primarily for hockey reasons, because he thinks that program will help his career.
On his Twitter page, there is a pinned tweet announcing his commitment to Harvard – dated April 3, 2018. The kid has been Harvard-bound for more than three years. I can't imagine he did that in 2018 so he would have an easy out if the wrong team drafted him in 2021.
(By the way, he has one other tweet with the same date. Turns out he's a Yankees fan. Watch out, everybody! The real reason he won't sign with the Flames: he's giving up hockey to play baseball!)

Yup, I'm sure it's universal but we have a large contingent of fans here that collectively seem to think our GM gets first refusal for every free agent and every trade.

Woah, good catch:
Added texture/detail in the flames.
I dig it, since we dropped the 3rd colour from the logo it looks a little plain I guess so this is a subtle way to add a bit of detail.

I think the Flames and Adidas already started putting new threads in the logo. That's how they create that textured effect.

Yeah the difference between Fox and Coronado is Fox picked Harvard to work on his degree to become clinical psychologist (something like that I believe) if hockey didn't work out, Coronado is going to Harvard for the hockey program to develop his skills in order to make the NHL, he's not even sure what he's going to major in yet.
