I understand it's obviously different circumstances for the signings, but this makes the Jones contract look even worse.

Wow The Avs must of felt bad having such a good deal with Mackinnon.
I can not see a problem with giving him a 2 yr by 5 M or let him play in KHL After 2 years he would be getting 11 x 4 to make it an equivalent contract.
Landeskog?

1 UFA year. His debut playoff run burned a year off his ELC, but doesn't count towards free agency.

Sometimes I wonder if Ricardo is a troll bot and these gibberish posts don't really change my mind about that

I guess Colorado got tired of winning.
How much will the Avs have to give up to get rid of Erik Johnsons 6 x 2? Does Arizona have room?

He’s already one of the best d-men in the league, he could win multiple Norris trophies during this contract. No problem with this deal, in fact he’s underpaid for what he brings.

Well, this will make Fox, Dahlin and Hughes happy. I would have expected this number, but for 7 or 8 years, after Heiskanen.

Considering he's a top 3 defenseman on the planet, 9 mill is more than reasonable.
However, he'll likely cash in on his next contract big time.
Calgarians seem to habitually sign reasonable contracts in general.

July 1, 2017: the NHL’s best defenceman and multiple time Norris Trophy winner, son of a former Calgary Flames employee and present Calgary Flames season ticket holder, and boy who was named after Flames legend Cale Hulse, comes home.

How in the heck does anybody think this is a bad deal?
This is a 22 year old DEFENCEMEN who is close to PPG since coming into the league and just finished top 3 in Norris voting. He’s already an absolute stud and probably going to continue getting better. This is a fair contract now and probably going to look even better in a couple of years.

Term, I’m guessing. In your couple years he’ll be almost halfway through it. I think he’s worth the $$. If I’m an Avs fan I’m disappointed in 6 years.

Good for him. And good for the AJHL. The kid was a stud back in his days with Brooks and it's good for that league to get some credibility for player development.

What a steal of a deal. 6x9 for the best defenseman in the league? Crazy good

Don't forget that some young D on that Dallas Stars team signed for 8x8.5.
I know which contact I'd take.

Which one would you take? Heiskanen at 8x8.5 vs Makar at 6x9 is an interesting discussion.
