They were forced to a degree when Jones didn't want to sign long term

Columbus had made it to the playoffs 5 straight years before this year.

But they didn't think things were going to work moving forward, so they are tearing things down.

If Voracek is retained, Columbus could look to flip him. Or use him to get the puck to Laine.

Philadelphia sgit the bed last season. Looks like they are addressing change now.

Take note Brad.
Well…except for the Ristolainen trade being terrible and for Voracek being better than Atkinson.

If that’s the moves available to “shake it up” I’d rather Treliving not make a deal

Based on phillys moves they are willing to pay to get rid of cap.

I doubt they pay much in this deal but I’m sure philly will dump another pick to not retain salary

Surprised Columbus took on the extra cap without a sweetener, but they’re clearly ushering in a new era there and must believe Voracek can be a leader.

Cool trade to see.

Good move by the Flyers. Needed a change up-front. Free some cap room as well at the same time.

Don’t get this move as much from the Blur Jackets point of view, unless they flip Voracek. He does have history with the team, so probably helps with the fanbase

Since CLB is clearly rebuilding, I wonder if they retain on Voracek and flip him for futures?

Philly will be way better next year than they were this year...just by making changes.

I will wager on it.

Flyers needed a change in leadership on the ice. Vorachek is the first to go but in my opinion there needs to be at least one more. When Hextall gave him the big contract I didn't think he would last 2 years for what he provided.

Fletcher seems to be trading for good team guys and maybe this is the change they need to get back. Happy to see as a Flyer fan.

What? When your team misses the playoffs and want to get better they make changes??? What a novel concept…..

Atkinson scores more goals and kills penalties, Voracek more pts. Same age (2mths diff).

I think people would appreciate Voracek differently if is AAV didn't start with an 8. He's been a 61+ pt pace for the last 9 years.

On the other hand, CA's goal totals might be a bit skewed by 2-3 big years, but he's still a consistent 22 goal guy:

G/gp (reverse chrono):
.27 (last season) = 22g/82
.27
.51
.37
.43
.33
.28
.27

Ignoring salaries, they are probably equal value, albeit different players.

Also worth noting JV has no trade protection vs. CA 10 team NTC. Not a big deal, but CBJ could probably get a better return after they pay JV's $5M signing bonus next year (would be 8.75M cash owing for last 2 years).

The moves never stop!

Voracek has his moments, but Flyers desperately need the cap space for other needs -- signing Sanheim/Hart, 3rd line center, backup goalie. Great move. Hope there isn't any salary retained.

Way to go out on a limb there, it isn't like they can be worse.

Because they made changes....changes that others say were no good.
