More incentive for an NCAA kid because it also means finishing school. They also can't potentially come back to the NCAA after signing, so it's a bigger decision.
For a CHL kid, signing means potentially moving on from Regina or Barrie and going somewhere cool. For an NCAA kid it means leaving Harvard or whatever school, and most of these guys will tell you their college years were some of the best of their lives.
I'm not worried about Coronato unless he does or says something to change that, but lets not pretend this is an apples to apples scenario compared to any other pick

The old adage of ‘this is why we can’t have nice things’ springs to mind when reading all the worry wart posts about him bouncing 4 years from now… lol; how about we just enjoy the pick??
I laugh at the fox example too because even though it stings we still utilized him to finalize a trade that has two core players still playing for us in Lindholm and Hanifin… you can still turn it into a positive outcome if push comes to shove so can we stop the fretting and just welcome the kid to the team we cheer for??

I honestly felt a bit bad for Coronato during the interview when the very first question from Francis was basically "are you going to do the same thing the last Harvard kid did?". FFS. Kid just got drafted in the NHL and you start with that stuff right off the bat ... god I hate Eric Francis.
absolutely love the pick, that whole college thing doesn't faze me at all. A right-handed goal machine, what's not to like? Exactly what we needed in our prospect pool.

Just to be clear, I do not root against my own team, I hope the pick turns out to be a total slam dunk. I just see the baked in risk and wish a more cautious selection was made with such an important asset.
Also of note I was on the other side of shouting down panicked CP users regarding one Thomas Erixon. I believe I was pretty dismissive and had a lot of bad sky falling takes. When there’s concern about getting a prospect signed it’s a negative plain and simple. There are guys you can draft that don’t require a jet and a conroy to come and play for the flames.

The guy has to go and its not like I want a fanboy covering the team either like the no gooders to the north but having this snide asshat of a reporter constantly throwing shade at any storyline around the team he’s in charge of reporting on just seems awkward and off base. Jettisoned into the sun is what I’m hoping for.

but there is no concern at this point. We just drafted the kid! There a lots of players drafted every 1st round who are going the college route, and cases like Fox are exceptions, not the rule. There's just no reason to lose our collective minds at this point. When it's 2023 and we struggle to sign him, then that's a different story. But right now? Nah. We drafted a great prospect, should be exciting. Why does it always have to be glass half empty on here?

This is what I was thinking as well.
But at least the other guys like Pike, Parker and Steinberg, brought it back to normalcy pretty quickly.

Erixon didn't pan out as an NHLer anyway. So, him not signing with the Flames was ultimately inconsequential.

Was disappointed that Sillinger went the pick before, but happy with the selection. Really nice to add a pure scorer into the system.

But I think it is splitting hairs, I think they are probably all at a very similar level.
The idea of the 3 of them as a line is pretty great though!

We haven’t had a kid line since Fleury, Ranheim.

Just listened to the interview. Bright kid. He seems to understand his strengths (high motor, 200 ft game) and I like that he's a fan of Brayden Point's game. Sutter will love having a kid like this.
Also, I know Francis isn't the most diplomatic guy but I'm still glad he asked the question. I'm not worried about the Harvard thing but Coronato's answers should quell some of the concerns that others have.

Short of signing a contract during the media Zoom call, I don't know what else Coronato could've done at this point to assuage everyone's nerves.

Pronman's take on the pick:
Coronato had a massive season in the USHL and brings a scoring/dynamic element that Calgary has very little of in its system. He becomes one of the overall quickest, most skilled and most comptitive prospects in the Flames’ thin pipeline. You can reasonably see him become a top-six forward in the NHL for the Flames in 3-5 years.

Nothing. It’s going to be lurking in the background until the kid is signed. I think he gets signed after his second year of college. Unless he rips it apart next season, two years is optimal. If it goes beyond that, then the concerns become real.

The chances of a 13th overall pick becoming an NHLer are probably no better than a coin flip. So really, how much risk can there be that he’ll go ufa? It’s far more likely he’ll be a bust.

Don’t know much about this kid
Is he better than Cole Caufield at his age?
