I'm excited for him because I think he could be really great. He also provides something we don't really have in our system. I think it's also fair to be at least a little nervous, as he presents a little more risk
That being said, for those who think this was an awful pick, who was better that was still on the board? Lucius (maybe?) but he represents the same risks.

I just hope Pinder doesn't do it in a pestering way.

I'd rather not be bugging this kid about it every time a media member speaks with him.

It's actually 100% of the top 13, as CHL players also back into the draft if not signed within 2 years....If they wait 2 more years after that, they are UFAs. Just like college players.

Swedish players are UFAs after 4 years as well.

Why exactly are you here?

This can't be fun for you.

I love me a goal-per-game scorer.

In the CHL? That's great.

In the USHL?

That's downright drool-worthy.

CP: "Yeah he can score, but this kid is going to Harvard! We wanted goal scorers, but not like this! We are surely going to lose him, no question about it, it's already a done deal. Pretty sure this kid hates Calgary and all things Canadian. I heard he already bought a house in New York. Why is our management so dumb!?"

Jesus, H., Christ...get a grip everyone. This is a great pick. Cool it.
Thank you. The world is not ending. Goal scorers are exactly what every team needs.

Is there some kind of rule against Treliving or someone on the Flames’ scouting staff asking the kid something like this: “if we have the opportunity to draft you, would you be willing to play out of Calgary?” Drafted at 12 or 16 can’t make much of a difference in the initial contract dollars.

His highlight packages show him ripping goalies apart from a distance with his shot. That’s definitely a skill we lack, so it’s exciting to see!

pronman's analysis on the pick:
https://theathletic.com/2722114/2021...-wings-goalie/

Quote:
Scouting report: Coronato was one of the best players in the USHL and among the leaders in most offensive categories. Coronato is an undersized forward with a lot of skill who can make plays with pace. He’s a strong skater, not elite for a small guy, but good enough to be an NHL player. He’s able to create controlled entries with his speed and skill, and make tough plays to his teammates on the move. Coronato is also able to play the half-wall on the power play and find seams as well as finish from distance. He killed penalties for Chicago and works hard enough to advance levels and win battles despite his size. In a sentence, Coronato projects as a versatile second-line NHL winger.

Thoughts on the pick: Coronato had a massive season in the USHL and brings a scoring/dynamic element that Calgary has very little of in its system. He becomes one of the overall quickest, most skilled and most comptitive prospects in the Flames’ thin pipeline. You can reasonably see him become a top-six forward in the NHL for the Flames in 3-5 years.

From interview:

"I liked my interview with the Flames. I really liked the staff."

"I felt like there was a good relationship there and they gave me a good feeling."

Apparently said he had a good feeling when Flames were up to pick that they would take him.

Is a fan of Gaudreau.

Nah, you could say that about every player drafted tonight that was happy about where they were going. Lets enjoy the pick. Nothing wrong with some people being concerned. Flames picked best player available and a rw.

Adam Fox was apart of I believe multiple development camps with the Flames. People change. Fox believed in himself as a player, and maybe he did look at the potential log jam at the time... Like another poster said talk is cheap, and if the kid projects the way he has we will be in for a 4 year nail biter...Prove me wrong PLEASE!

Honestly I think NYR tampers with these kids. We need someone to lay low in NY state!!!!

Maybe we could make him sign a promise that he will sign with the Flames with his own blood for the ink.

Another USHLer his draft year is better than is John Gaudreau
