At that age, Fox was looking at a logjam of D on the Flames' depth chart, and knew he would be spending time in the minors if he did sign early. Coronato is looking at a wide-open RW position.

Did he actually? I never imagined that he was starting in the NHL straight out of training camp after his sophomore year. I think you are wrong about this, and one of the reasons Fox was unwilling to sign was precisely because of the prospect of a year or two in the AHL.

It's so tiring at this point, the Flames fan base is one of the worst at this point IMO
Flames have been mediocre at best, but I can't understand the toxic mindset to immediately be pessimistic about a brand new draft pick

I'll tell you what guys...Its hard to be a Flames fan sometimes, but we are all here, and although we may not all agree, we all truly want the best for the team.
Brad looks like he has ran on about 3 hours of sleep a night the last week, lets hope and pray he did his due diligence with this kid, the Fox saga was painful at the time...But now seeing him at the top of the league makes it worse.

There is no loophole.
Coronato is Flames property for next 4 years.
CHL drafted players are 2 years, then re-enter.
No one ever has to sign anywhere. All NA players can be free agents in 4 years.

His Draft-0 year NHLe is 38, while Zary’s was 37 on hockeyprospecting.com, so it’s probably pretty close between Coronato and Zary.
Also his closest NHL projection is Nick Suzuki. There’s not a lot to dislike about this pick. Looks like very good work.

There is a lot of complaining going on for people that are supposedly having fun. Debating the wisdom of a first round pick IMO is more interesting than liking the pick no matter what it is.
If you’ve predetermined you’re going to find something wrong with it, then I agree with you that is overly negative. But if you’re complaining about people who see something in it to be concerned about, when it’s pretty much staring us all in the face, then we’re not really engaging in any kind of real discussion are we?
Kid sure sounds like a player. Hopefully the Oilers pick can be ridiculed.

Francis asked him directly about Harvard and brought up Fox... Coronato saying all the right things about playing with the Flames and not staying 4 years at Harvard
Said he interviewed a number of times with Calgary, had a feeling they like him, and he enjoyed talking to them as well. Says he's happy about the Flames selecting him...
So, nothing we can do but wait.
