Sucks for the Coyotes to lose Garland but it likely has to happen to get the team to a better place long term.

Great trade for Arizona. They took 3 expiring bad contracts. 2 might be able to be traded for more if they retain salary. I’d take beagle 50 percent retained. Roussel probably could get a pick 50 percent retained. They will be in a very good spot in 1 year. Van will be in a rough spot after next year.

Some charts I found on Twitter for Garland and OEL... tale of two player trajectories, right here.
I actually thought OEL was still at least a #4... Looks like he might not even be that. Good lord. It's like Benning wanted to be able to say, "See? I told you Myers wouldn't be our worst defense contract!"

If Coyotes are retaining some of OEL's contract, this could be a win for Canucks.
If not, well that's over $20 million in cap hit tied up to Tyler Myers, OEL and Nate Schmidt long term.

Yeah, he won't be.
And "amazing", are you sure?
5 years of OEL's albatross when you would've been free of your cap munchers next summer?
Hope Garland is worth that long term pain.

True, but I was assuming Schmidt will be gone at some point, even presuming they have to take money back or a nothing return.

This trade would definitely be amazing... "Amazing" doesn't necessarily mean "good".

Not really, Beagle, Eriksson, and Roussel had 1 year left. He traded it for 6 more years of OEL @ $8.25 mil

Definitely sure as I didn't say it was "amazingly good for the team"
I said it was amazing. More in reference to the deal continually getting bigger with contracts.

I’m definitely in the minority but I don’t think OEL is as bad as he has been the last two years. I think a change of scenery will help him. Not be worth 8.25 but I could see him rebounding

Is Vancouver really including their 1st round pick?

I think he will bring more than Roussel and Eriksson have for the past two years. I don't think he will earn his cap hit.

Long term this is a terrible terrible move for the Canucks but next year probably a plus
This is why having desperate GM’s with short term goals of saving their jobs scares me
Wanted Garland but not with that anchor attached

Wouldn’t go that far.
It’s a pretty short-sighted move by him if you ask me.

Ha Seattle just sitting in the corner alone thinking they were going to take on all the bad contracts with their cap space.

This is horrendous for Vancouver. They've already had to deal with the majority of those terrible Eriksson, Beagle, and Roussel deals. They have only one year left on each deal. OEL has already regressed hard and has SIX YEARS LEFT

They’re probably banking on a Tanev-level resurgence. Does OEL or Hughes play the right side comfortably? New pairing?

I was just thinking this...how is Seattle not in on any of these deals with their extra cap space? Are they really gonna try to build through the draft with what they have?
