If TB is letting him walk there's no reason for them not to try and get a late pick to let a team in early.

I had Blake Comeau in my head for some reason. Couldn't figure out why we would want him. Coleman makes more sense and would be a Sutter favorite.

Sarich needs to get on the phone and brag to Blake about how great Calgary is .....then Tre won't have much work to do.
Ahhh....if only it were that easy

Is this the first of a handful of trades we were almost in on?

You add players like Coleman to push you over the top after you have an elite core in place. Odd move for Calgary.

Or you add heart and soul players like Coleman when you're trying to build a winning culture. Could be our present day John Tonelli.

This. Treliving shouldn't touch this with a ten feet pole. It's a classic UFA overpayment for a mediocre player waiting to happen.

So who do the Flames target then in your opinion?

So Brad should just sit on his hands and not try to improve the team at all? Let’s just go I to next season with the same line up. Right?
We don’t even know what this contract would be yet, so it’s a bit pre mature to assume this is already an overpayment for a UFA

If losing out on Blake Coleman is the biggest disappointment of the weekend for Flames fans you can sign me up for that.

I preferred the times when you'd open the newspaper and read the article about the official trade or signing.

Either you target someone like Eichel or maybe make some minor trades like Pitlick although I wouldn't even do that. This team isn't close to winning anything right now and shouldn't be signing mediocre UFAs who won't move the needle at all.

We acquired Tonelli at the deadline in '86 and then didn't re-sign him after benching him in the playoffs in '88. He wasn't on the team that won the Cup.
I remember liking him, but I don't know that he had much of an impact on us wining the Cup in '89.
Edit: Although, I guess we did bring him in from the Isles where he had won a bunch of Cups, which would have been a good thing in the room, since we were a pretty young team at the time. So, fair point.

Before judging the "overpayment" we need to know the number.
Coleman isn't a mediocre player either, he is a competent two way scoring winger. We need all the goal scorers we can get and adding a player who can play in your bottom 6 and still produce is crucial to winning.
I think this is exactly the move we should be making right now of the price is right. We need players who play the right way and care about winning. Coleman is that to a T.

You can still get that experience. Stay off Twitter and don't read rumour threads.

Yes, I agree. The news was always much better when it arrived a day or two later, filtered through the lens of the person writing it and on a medium that left ink all over my fingers.
