Default Flames Draft Day: What would YOU do?

Fantasy opportunity. You've been handed the reigns and get to make the moves for the Flames this weekend. What do you do?

Here's my go.

Make the big splash. Trade a core piece.

To St. Louis: Matthew Tkachuk, Oliver Kylington

To Calgary: Vladimir Tarasenko (no retention), Jordan Kyrou, Jake Neighbors, 1st rounder in 2021 (17th overall)

Come to the Flames pick at #13. Trade down.

To Nashville: #13 pick, #77 and 84 picks.

To Calgary: #19 pick, #40 and #51 picks.

Calgary picks at #17, #19, #40, #45, #51, #141, #173, and #205

Come out of the draft with two right shooting top six forwards, a promising young LW who is already along in his development, and five picks in the top 50 to help restock our system.

I would go;

Monahan and 3rd for Oliver Bjorkstrand
12th + Dube + Kyllington for Rinehart
2nd (2022) & Kerins for Jake Bean
5th(2022) and 6th round for 4th round in 2021

Let’s assume we aren’t getting Eichel.

I draft my picks, BPA.

Try to pick at least one Russian and one goalie - with the goalie, preferably from Finland or Sweden.

Don’t overthink it - less is more.

My biggest hope is a huge trade that has us all floored and excited. Something way out of left field. I hope the Flames make a selection tonight that is well received.

I want next years team to start taking shape.

I’d sign Coleman!

I actually like that STL trade, assuming that the love is mutual between STL and Tkachuk

I would re-tool, Forwards more specifically the core. Has to be changed.

1st move is to trade Johnny Gaudreau, basically try to acquire the best package available and move him to US based team

My thoughts, Gaudreau is just not equipped to be successful in the playoffs.

2nd move, make Tkachuk the captain

3rd move, acquire more draft picks .

I would stand pat for trades, draft my picks. Add some players via UFA, nothing crazy though and then see what happens this year.

Sell at the trade deadline if we are on the outside looking in or are even close to a playoff spot and not dominating. Load up for the 22 and 23 drafts and hope to get the old Edmonton luck with draft lotteries.

Kyrou is an interesting player, somewhat similar to Dube's situation with Sutter/Flames. He's shown flashes of great hockey, mixed in with time in Berube's doghouse. Consistency, defensive effort and 200 foot play is what is holding him back from being a reliable everyday player. Very good skater, and great shot.

I expand on your St. Louis trade and take into consideration Tarasenko probably doesn't want to come to Calgary:

Calgary flips Tarasenko and Gaudreau to the Flyers for Voracek ($1.5 million retained) and Konecny. Hey Dreger said Tre was being creative.

Voracek-Lindholm-Konency
Mangiapane-Monahan-Kyrou
Coleman-Backlund-Pitlick
Lucic-Dube-Ritchie

There's about 9 "Sutter types" in that forward group.

Prospects acquired include Frost and Neighbours along with your additional picks.

I would do whatever I can to draft Sillinger, Lucius or Coronato in the first round to give this team a true goal scoring prospect that it is in desperate need of. I would also look to bundle picks and snag a well rounded defender like Lambos or Cuelemans should either slide into the late first or early second round.

You also absolutely need to move out Monahan, even if it is for next to nothing. It's not working, the team is stagnant upfront and he's simply not going to age well - some of which we are already seeing over the last 2 seasons.

Kyrou was the drafted by the Blues with our second rounder that was used in the Brian Elliott trade.

The more you know...

I have always been against drafting goalies high in the 1st round. But if either of the big 2 are still there, I would be cool with it this year (seeing as how this draft is more of a crap shoot than usual)

I think several team ahead of Calgary want a goalie, so when Wallstedt goes, others will try to trade down to a position to get Cossa

Would be a crazy experiment for a team to collect all the guys in the league with the perceived worst attitudes. Have to include Laine and Evander Kane.
