If the Flames have a deal for Coleman they will likely be sending a pick to Tampa to avoid him going to UFA market.

Obviously depends on the $, but I really really love Coleman and he's the type of guy this team needs

An injection of a winning pedigree would be very welcomed; especially compared to our track record of UFA signings. Hopefully true.

He's a decent middle 6 player but I'd be worried about the contract, especially for an American signing in Calgary. I have concerns this deal creeps into the 4.5 million range.

Depending on the contract, he can be a great addition to this team. Just worried it might be 5 or more per year.

Interesting. Would be a solid replacement for Ryan - better player IMO.
35ish point guy. Except he had 31 in 55 with Tampa last year (46 point pace) and he had 2G and 2A in the finals.

Seems like a solid add -- will come at a cost (AAV and term) to be sure, plus a potential draft pick if we get his rights from Tampa before he hits UFA status.
He was born in Texas so perhaps he's okay with "Texas North"?

This will be an overpay, but I really like the player.
Having a shut down line is essential to have success in the NHL right now and the addition of Pitlick and Coleman would prove that it’s a clear priority for the team to create a defensive third line this year.

If he is coming in the play center I am sure the contract will not be a 4th line type. I wonder if this opens the door to move Monahan or Backlund?

also the kind of player that'd do well for Sutter I'd imagine.
if they can sign him to the Hudler special or something along those lines, that's a heck of deal. But given what Goodrow and Hyman got ...

3.5 mil is a win. 4 is pretty meh. above gets hairy. Ditto anything beyond 5 years.
4x4 is a win in my books, though I think he's not quite worth 4.

I'm guessing hes going to be looking for 4.5-5M a year on a 5-6 year deal based on his linemate Goodrows contract (6yrs 3.6aav) who he outproduced and are just a year apart in age + Coleman plays C

That's exciting. Him on a line with Mangiapane could be an excellent forechecking unit. Exactly the kind of player that one would think Sutter wants added to the line up.

coleman is a guy I have really liked in the past. I think he would be a excellent fit for the flames too. Contract could be a bit dicey but not overly worried about it. I think Coleman has been pretty underrated. Unsure when we would have acquired his rights.

Good player but this board will hate the contract.
He’s a Zach Hyman type so think similar dollars and term.

You’re always going to overpay when there is no acquisition cost.
What’s a first round pick worth in cash value?
That’s what he’d cost if he wasn’t a UFA.
He’s a young 29 as he played 4 years college and has 300 games in the NHL.
He’s a robust and skilled player. Like him a lot.
