The name is after the Art Deco “guardians of traffic” art installation on the bridge near the stadium.
The wings in the logo match the wings of the statutes.
It’s a fantastic name and logo.

That very well may be the case background wise but nobody would know unless they did some research. I guess can be said about a lot of team names but I still think team names that have such a stretch to connections, are silly. No need to over think it, come up with a cool name and design a logo over it. When a name is so far removed from the city identity itself, then everyone is provided an explanation after the fact, I just think to myself, hmmm…okay?
Anyway, the logo looks like it was drawn by a kid in the 80s. Weird to be polite about it.

It's the same song and dance with every new logo / team name. The majority of people are pretty meh on it and then you have the vocal minority talking about how horrible it is. Sounds like the back story is pretty interesting and has a nice local touch. Not sure what there is dislike about that.
