Monahan is worth vastly more than Buchnevich.

Ya, I was thinking the same thing as well as the possibility of opening up 1 or 1.5 million dollars in cap space.

Strongly disagree. If we offered Monahan for Buch straight up I would take that all day.

Does 12th overall get you Buchnevich?
And if so do you do that if you can get him signed on a fair multi year deal?
He's only 26 and we need a top line RW.

I’d rather trade Monahan and keep the 12th overall pick
Sign Buchnevich for 6 or more years and keep 12th pick to help manage your cap.
This team probably needs a dman to replace Gio. We have the space now but it gets tight next year and good prospects on elcs can help until the cap starts going up

Falling apart?
Because he got injured?
Ridiculous take.

He has had multiple injuries the last 2 years and like 4 surgeries. I think he has taken a beating and will be hard pressed to endure a full season or playoffs

He's seemingly playing through some injury that makes him tragic a lot the past few years.

How are you getting Buchnevich then? Whether Monahan is fair value or not, the only reason they’re hesitating on Buch is because they have a few big names that are going to require big money next year and possibly the year after. I don’t think Monahan fits for them.

Aren’t they shopping Strome as well? Monahan could replace him.

Target Buchnevich and shesterkin for whatever they need. Dube, valimaki see if there is anything they'd want. I would target those 2 if at all possible.

Sounds a lot like one Mikael Backlund a few years back. He turned out just fine.
If this stuff was the same injury like a knee or an ankle/foot, then yeah it would be a concern
He is dealing with bones and tendons, stuff that heals at the ripe old age of 26.
The guy has been through a lot, I agree but i just had a quick peek...he has played in 96% of all games the Flames have played since they drafted him. His durability nor his toughness should be questioned.
I understand he may be a trade piece as part of the core that needs a shake up, but unless its in a package for another C, it will only hurt this club.
Buchnevich is attractive as a RW for sure, but not at the expense of the teams 2nd line C. That simply doesnt make them better...it just fills a hole and opens up another gaping one.

I looked up this Buchnevich character everyone is talking about. Career high 21 goals. Is he really worth Monahan? Or giving them whatever they need.

So you would rather take a ridiculously bad offer for Gaudreau before his NTC kicks in than take any chance at all on either re-signing him or trading him later?
Those were the choices I was discussing. Nobody is going to offer full value for him if they perceive the Flames as boxed-in and desperate.

From Friedman this evening:
Quote:
Rick Tocchet is considering television opportunities in addition to an associate coach role or two. There was at least one that would have made him the highest-paid assistant in the NHL.
|
Interesting given the rumours connecting him to Calgary. I'd love to see him sign here and be "the highest-paid assistant in the NHL", forever slamming the door shut on the whole "the Flames don't want to pay coaches" argument.
Quote:
According to several sources, Chicago and Columbus are taking another run at a Seth Jones trade. During the first attempt, the Blue Jackets discussed Kirby Dach or Alex DeBrincat as the centrepiece, but it wasn’t something the Blackhawks wished to do.
What the two teams are trying to do is find common ground without including either of them; finding another mix of Chicago’s young players, prospects and high draft picks. (The Blackhawks are scheduled to select 12th in the first round.) It is believed they are one of the teams that could secure a long-term commitment from Jones.

Just messin' around:
Trade Tkachuk to STL for Tarasenko ($1,500,000 retained), Kyrou, Neighbors
Sign UFA Annti Raanta - 1 year $2,000,000 AAV
Sign UFA Alec Martinez - 3 years $5,000,000 AAV
Sign UFA Michael Stone - 1 year $850,000 AAV
Sign UFA Tyler Bozak - 1 year $1,500,000 AAV
Sign RFA Jordan Kyrou - 5 years $4,000,000 AAV
Sign RFA Dillon Dube - 1 year $950,000 AAV
Sign RFA Jusso Valimaki - 1 year $950,000 AAV
Sign RFA Connor Mackey - 1 year $850,000 AAV
Sign RFA Glenn Gawdin - 1 year $750,000 AAV
Sign RFA Matthew Phillips - 1 year $750,000 AAV
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tarasenko
Mangiapane - Monahan - Kyrou
Dillon Dube - Backlund - Pitlick
Milan Lucic - T. Bozak - Ritchie
Gawdin - Phillips
Hanifin - Tanev
Martinez - Andersson
Valimaki - Stone/Kinvall
Mackey
Markstrom
Raanta
$2,675,000 cap space
Bozak might make a good 4th line veteran C option. Still one of the best face off guys in the league at roughly 56% every season.

I like all of it except I'd spend Bozak's money on a bigger Dube deal, and let the rookies fight for that last spot. Worst case we sign someone's PTO to a lesser deal for some insurance.
Martinez is exactly who I hope we're after aggressively.
And that STL package is worth the risk in a still trying to win now deal.
