Now I know it's Eklund and he's never right, this is just for conversational purposes.
I would take Lemieux and play him with either Tkachuck or Looch. His dad was a guy that you absolutely hated, unless he's on your team. This team needs more of that, make the Flames a team that everyone hates and hates to play against.

I would definitely have interest in the bottom 6. I want all of our bottom 6 outside of Backlund to be a mean bastard

We need more players that can play hockey better…. I think between Tkachuk, Lucic and Ritchie we have enough of these type of guys.

I think Lemieux has skill and I think Sutter could help bring it out.

I would love to bring in Lemieux. Can't imagine the cost would be that high, and it would be awesome to see him and Tkachuk together after their "fight" at the Penticton camp

Still remember Tkachuk just giving it to Lemieux in Pentiction their draft year. Thought maybe there was some bad blood from junior because there was nothing that set it off. I think it happened off a face off.

It would be an unpopular direction amongst fans - the most unpopular in fact - but maybe adding a complimentary player to the current core of the team instead of making a big change could be the move this offseason. I’m not sure I’m on board for it myself even. But the costs and risks of the big trades (Eichel) and signings this offseason may make being conservative the better play. They need to have a strong grasp on the players and where they are at going into this season. A lot of things went wrong last year and, if those things can be fixed/prevented this year, then this should be a playoff team.
As far as players, Monahan and Tkachuk are the biggest linchpins to this teams’ success this year. You can trace back this teams struggles to when Monahan began to start struggling two years ago. He’s at an all time low in value so he would probably mean more to the flames on the ice than as part of a trade. A bounce-back year from Monahan could fix that - just don’t bring him back without 100% health. Of course there’s the risk he never returns to his previous form. The team needs to have a good understanding of his health and physical ability to be what he was before in order to know if he has any chance of being a 30 goal/30 assist type center again.
As for Tkachuk, I think it’s a constructive conversation that needs to happen between him and his teammates and management. Does he really want to be a leader on this team? Does he want to be here for long-term? Forgetting about the cost for a moment - if that was not a factor, does he want to be the leader of Monahan, Gaudreau, Lindholm, mangiapane, backlund, etc.? Or is he never going to get over whatever happened last year with Muzzin and the team?
I’m not saying Tkachuk needs to “tone it down” or anything. I’m saying management needs to know if the relationship amongst the players in the room is broken and cannot be fixed. If so, who needs to go?
Maybe go after Connor Garland from Arizona? They might be able to acquire him for a reasonable price.
I still like the look of this line up if everyone can play together and buy in to the team under Sutter:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Garland
Tkachuk-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Pelletier-Backlund-Dube
Lucic-Pitlick-Ritchie
If it all falls apart then the team will at least have pieces that can be traded at the deadline and it may indicate a rebuild is required.

Lemieux has been moved by the Rangers and now the Kings want to move him…. Any issues or just the fact he is a bottom six player and goes with the territory?

Don’t forget he was moved by the Sabres and the Jets before the Rangers

Knowing a guy that works in the jets locker room Lemieux was a POS. Guys hated him. He would watch video and call people out in derogatory ways non stop about small things.

Came here to post just this! I was at that game, and that fight was more than just a hockey fight. There was pure hatred from both sides.
It was a good intro to seeing Tkachuk for the first time in a Flames uniform.

Have to love the 4th liner calling out the mistakes of the rest of the team on video…… feels like a hard no to add that type of guy.

I am curious what Treliving does with the D (well, what he does with everything this off-season, really).
I can't imagine that he isn't going to go after a top-paring D with some scoring ability to pair with Tanev. If that doesn't pan out, I think he has to find another top 4 defencemen then with scoring ability.

I don't know what it takes to get him, but I'd love to see Buchnevich added to that group somehow.
and, no I'm not day drinking... that starts tomorrow, but I wouldn't mind if somehow Lindholm was 2nd line C behind this Jack Eichel guy.
Gaudreau-Eichel-Buchnevich
Tkachuk - Lindholm- Mangiapane
Sounds interesting. The rest of the roster and the draft picks would likely be depleted in order to get that top 6, but that's something to get excited about compared to what we've seen.
