I get why Carolina is probably gun shy there.
They want to contend. They've had issues with goalies in short sample sizes before burning them once they got a bigger deal.
Recall that Nedeljkovic is a guy that hadn't shown a ton of promise at the AHL level with average stats, and also was a guy that was on waivers multiple times without being claimed.
So for them giving him $3M that probably feels really risky. This is a guy they've had in the organization for years that they were ready to give up on.
But for Detroit it makes so much sense at this cost. You aren't worried about cap space, you're supposed to suck anyways, and this gives you a potential look at a long term starting goalie if last year wasn't just a lucky 20 games.

Yeah I think whether or not his performance will sustain is an open question. It seems like they felt it may not.

Well played, Stevie Y. I continue to be impressed with this Red Wings rebuild.

That is probably what they are thinking, but is Mrazek any better/more consistent? Seems like they are a really good team, and now have a bigger question mark in net, on the whole.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Not yet, but would assume Carolina is working on a deal.

Nedeljkovic = Good, young, RFA.
This return is minuscule. No one else needed a goalie??

I was always getting confused where Reimer played and where Bernier played... this doesn't help.

Could do a fun venn diagram of them and Mrazek and Andersen with ANA, CAR, DET, TOR.
Giguere played for HFD(CAR), ANA and TOR
Some LAK, COL, OTT, CHI, MTL and FLA goalies seem to be on this same carousel, too.
Gerber ANA, CAR, TOR, OTT. Huet, Darling, Theodore

I like Ned a lot and also like the Wings so, although I'm cool with this, I'm super confused and feel for Canes fans.
A coveted, 25 year old home grown goalie who won AHL goalie of the year and showed well, with great, league leading stats (albeit in a short sample size). Gets Calder consideration and plays great in the playoffs.
I love this for Detroit.
Yzerman is a stud.

The deal is so good I wonder why the Canes couldn’t get anyone to top it?
