ILl be curious if we’ll ever know what Tre would have given to keep Gio. Although Calgary maybe not a great example because the next best choice was so much less valuable.

Kind of looks like they’re playing the long game in terms of developing a team. But a couple of bigger ticket players could have become nice bargaining chips down the road.

Imagine if you were that ONE team who made a side deal with Seattle? You might as well kiss your GM career in the NHL goodbye.

Francis can redeem himself by spending that cap space on Hamilton and Landeskog and making some big acquisitions

He has the cap to do it

Doesn't make sense to me that there were no side deals. There were so many high level players available and they only took Gio. I get Dunn over Tarasenko, but not if you aren't taking Vorachek or JVR. So many little things I just don't get. They have cap room to play with, but I don't know. I'm pretty underwhelmed at the moment.

Some terrible picks then:

Geekie over Bean?
MacDermid?
Quenneville?
Bayreuther?
Twarynski?
True?

Todays roster is a loooong way from being finalized.

I think its a brilliant strategy moving into draft weekend.
Yup, what will the Oil pay for Seattle to take Koskinen?

Lightning still need to move Johnson.

Lots of teams still need to move salary. No point in seattle helping those teams only to have them compete against them for UFAs and drive up the prices.

Seattle still has lots to do.

Their strategy is obvious, horde the defensemen and maintain as much cap space as possible.

I’ll still wait to see what they look like after free agency and any trades starting tomorrow, since they have a lot of cap space, but some of these picks are outright bad in the case of no deals beforehand.

I think they take a run at Eichel. Maybe the Sabres wanted some weird players.

I wonder if there was discussion among GMs that they weren’t going down the road again. The reporting that Seattle prices were astronomical didn’t help either - who reads that and thinks fans will be OK with a deal.

I dunno, if side deal negotiations failing with every single other team are any indication it just seems to me at least like he has no ####ing clue what he's doing.

Pretty sure half the posters here could have executed the draft better. What a schmuck!

Not sure what kind of package Buffalo wants out of that roster. Maybe they want that Borgen kid back?

They are heavy on defence. Maybe they felt Bean wouldn't crack their roster, but also wouldn't clear waivers.

Geekie shouldn't have any problems clearing waivers.

If they liked the players that they drafted, they could have at least bluffed interest in the other guys to see if they could get a pick or two while still getting the guy they wanted and nobody would have held it against them. The 1st and 3rd ask was ridiculous. They could have racked up a bunch of seconds, thirds, and fourths though.

They have a ton of cap left. Let’s what they do with it.

Adding Hamilton and Landeskog would make them look a lot better.

Plus they still can do deals.

People need to wait and see the final product.
