Philly landing Ellis is a huge get, I don't see them being interested in Gio given their other rumoured target was Seth Jones.

And Detroit is still Detroit. Gio also has a NTC, remember.
Not to mention that Edmonton was almost assuredly one of the teams he would refuse to be traded too.

Yes if it was possible. Look how much they gave up for negative value Keith

I’d take trading Gio to a division rival for a great return instead of losing Gio to a division rival for no return

Who does Calgary get from Edmonton that makes Calgary better? Also, tell me Edmonton is on Gio's 19 team list.

ETA: and you are improving Edmonton a lot more than you can ever improve Calgary. Gio is just what they need. Instead, they got Keith and are weaker.

I will wait and see if a trade is made before jumping to any conclusions here. Friedman did say the Kraken would get calls regarding Gio so we knew this was possible.

What makes you think Gio would have agreed to move to Edmonton over Seattle or NY?

It’s super obvious that the plan was to expose Tanev before he played so well he literally ruined the plan

Not all division rivals are equal. I am not sure Gio ever plays a game for Seattle. Had the Oilers had the chance to send a 3rd and Jones to the Flames for Gio over Keith I am sure they would have jumped at that and he skates with them next year.

So far the only thing we know that was actually on the table was keeping Gio for a 1st and a 3rd, which the team needs desperately, as you said.

For all we know, every offer included a player we would have to protect on either D or F. So it could just as easily have turned into us losing Gio + another player for a middling draft pick. I'm don't think that would've been worth it, so it's also just another hypothetical that isn't worth reacting to.

Don't move the goalposts, you asked if a poster wanted to trade Giordano to Edmonton. In your question, you are assuming it's a possibility.

It's going to be really funny when it turns out there was nothing to this and he's staying with Seattle.

He’s been in Calgary for 1.5 decades. Not ridiculous to think the list didn't include Edmonton for how close it is. We’ll probably never know what his 10 teams were

Again, that wasn't the question.

Does a late draft pick and throw away prospect make it worth the Flames while to make their most hated rivals significantly better?

Well Edmonton showed why it was a bad idea. They lost Larsson to Seattle cause of that Keith trade and overpaid. Philly was a wash protection wise I believe and Leddy was dumped.
The only real move was to trade him last deadline which is a different discussion. See if this trade even goes down today but Gio is likely to be flipped by Seattle by the deadline anyways.

And then Jones gets exposed and probably taken, Gio helps Edmonton to PO success (if anyone could it's him). Yeah, no one would have wanted Treliving's head over that.

Is that what Chicago got back for Keith (who had less value than Gio).

Yes, and I can guarantee that Edmonton is not one of those 19.
