Oilers still would have lost Larsson because even if they protected him, he was leaving as a UFA.

But the Oilers were really close to signing a deal with Larsson!

Why do teams ever trade for UFA signing rights? All they've done here is forego a garbage asset.
1 week of knowing a few pieces of their D-core will be massively valuable. They can more confidently make trades at the draft this way. Not that they will trade away 8 D-men in a few days, but they could lose negotiation leverage by UFA day...

Yup according to Oiler sources he was going to sign a home town discount and everything. Instead this is basically flipping the bird to the Oilers on the way out the door.

It would be brilliant if Barrie walked now.
Bear on the top pairing haha what a disaster.

Obviously Nurse will just play 40 minutes a game.

I mean with the Flames losing Gio, maybe they dangle a reasonable contract to Barrie. That would make it even more glorious.

The hills they choose to die on are hilarious.
Meanwhile they love to venture out on to mountains that no one will climb for guys like Keith.
What a team, and what a blue line.
The trade is one for none!

Seattle’s offer was literally “$100k extra a year and you don’t have to live in Edmonton anymore” and Larsson was like “done.”
Lol.

If you consider cost of living in Seattle vs Edmonton, Larsson essentially took way less from Seattle than he would of from Edmonton.
Says a lot about his desire to stay with the Oil.

Hall for Larsson 1 for 1. Larsson 1 for none. You love to see it.

I want them to sign him, preferable for too much and too long now that Larsson left. He's a disaster in his own zone, exactly what they don't need.

It's no wonder Larsson wanted out with the Oil media idiots pestering him. An Oilers fan over on Reddit pointed out that Spector would ask him post-game presser questions like this:
"So, Adam, when did you give up your childhood dream of being Nick Lidstrom? At some point, did you just kind of realize it is better to embrace being a roleplayer with grit and toughness who does the hard jobs no one else wants to do? Points and a HoF career aren't everything, I take it?"
Good riddance, glad for Larsson to get out of that mess.

If they were smart they would have extended him months ago and protected him long before Seattle had a chance to make an offer. But they wanted Keith pretty bad so .....

Duncan Keith = 5.6 mil
Caleb Jones + Larson at 4.5 = 5.3
It makes no sense how they are allocating cap hit unless Larrsson was just a hard no for resigning weeks ago. They could have even went longer term with him to bring down the cap hit as they are scewed on years 5-8 of the RNH contract anyways.

I like Oleksiak.
But holy crap that’s a big contract for a guy that hasn’t proven he’s worth it yet iMO, and he’s 28 so he’s not that young that there is a lot of untapped upside.
