One thing that we shouldn't ignore is the desirability of Seattle. Next to Calgary there is no city I've spent more time in.
It has some issues (rampant drug use and homelessness) but it is a lovely place to live and spend time in - with incredible food, arts/music, sporting scene and outdoor activities. And the climate is great. It can rain a lot but when it's nice - it's amazing.

I think they are going to be successful in attracting free agents and that the city itself is a selling point.

The cap doesn't really matter.

The point is, Mike Smith will likely insist on playing as many games as possible, even if he is putting up bad numbers.

The Oilers will be unlikely to resist the temptation.

Very good deal for a backup who can take over as a starter.

Performance bonuses aren't allowed on a multiyear deal.

Man, dollar value wise, fine, but you’re still paying for an aging backup. Oilers are a joke. Make a trade for chrissakes if you don’t want to pay a premium. Even Rittich could be had for cheap. What are they consuming?

Only on one-year contracts.

Performance bonuses are only allowed on: ELCs; one-year contracts for 35+ players; and one-year contracts for 400+ game veterans who spent at least 100 days on the IR during the final year of their previous contract.

He's the starter though. He was good last season but at his age it could end fast and when Smith isn't 100% on his game, he's terrible.

We are laughing.
We should be laughing.
Smith and Neal on the same roster is hilarious.

McDavid getting this news makes him cry hopefully. 2 of the biggest cluster@#$% STILL in Edmonton.

Oh Kenny....never change.

Have to think the oilers and smith have a handshake deal that he will be “injured” for the entire last year of this contract. He gets his money for that last year, the oilers get him on LTIR and the cap space next year. It’s crazy to think he could get two years out of any team without that kind of agreement. Then again, E=NG
