Markstrom was elite to start the season, the injury clearly impacted his game. He was probably our best player down the stretch, too bad it was too little too late
What I like about Markstrom too is he clearly gives a f***. He ended up getting the injury because he was visibly annoyed with his own team not engaging and decided to do it himself. Fingers crossed they figure out who/what was the issue on the team and bring in guys who are willing to play the game the right way so their goalie doesn't have to

I wasn't sure where to put this so I'll just throw it in here. It starts around 6:45 if anyone's interested.
Summary:
Markstrom injured his neck in the collision with Tanner Pearson
He came back a bit too early and his game suffered for it
Liked Markstrom's start and finish with the Flames
Thought it was a bit of an adjustment with a new set of goalie coaches
Calgary's excited about his second season.
Figured he got hurt in that collision - wasn’t the same after that for quite a long time unfortunately. I also don’t know why he came out and caused that collision, stay in your net you are to good at stopping the puck to do stuff like that.
I also remember Treliving saying in his end-of-season presser that Tkachuk didn't skate a lot last offseason. Add in all the speculation about the Muzzin incident and I don't know what to believe as to why he seemed off.

People do seem to forget that he left the Dallas series due to a concussion, never came back and reportedly it affected his off season quite a bit as well.
Hopefully he and Monahan come back healthy if they're not traded and bounce back big time.

I guess only him and the team know what happened, but being the son of Keith, I'd get part entitlement is playing a role here, regardless of any injury. The team would be inclined to give him a free PR pass to cool down this off-season and hopefully come back strong, but I think he sulked after teammates had enough of his oft-unnecessary antics. While I wouldn't want to deal him based on this years' value, I ultimately don't think he'll take a penny discount on his next deal. So if he's going to be a baby unnecessarily, and he won't take a discount to be here in the future, pick your moment to maximize his value, either now or next season.

Pretty sure I remember Tre saying Tkachuk didn’t start off season training until 2 weeks before camp started
Sounds more and more like the Flames have a real problem with letting their players rest appropriately when injured.
I really don’t get how this is a grey area. Injured, sit. Not injured? Play. If you can play, you’re not injured. But if you are still injured, you shouldn’t be playing. Why is this so hard?

No clue how reputable it is, but I would 100% believe Tkachuk was hurt. I don't believe his game could take such a huge swing that early in his career. He clearly has a great head on his shoulders, I've never once believed he has any sort of attitude issue
I still think his best seasons are ahead of him and he's a guy who will win a cup before he retires. It would be a huge mistake to trade him unless

Well, it was getting to the point of frustration on his end. If the frustration was because of his playing through injury, then management should've sat him until physically fine. And I'm sure they would've, given he's your number one guy. The fact they didn't tells me injury isn't the main contributor here.

What the guy is ignoring though is the contract implications.
Similar to Johnny they need to assess Tkachuk's real intent to be part of the future and at what price tag.
And if that's not reasonable - move him sooner rather than later.
