Having him on LTIR does not create an advantage, it is in fact a slight disadvantage (because yo don't bank unused cap space).

If Seattle took Klefbom, the Oilers' cap situation would actually improve slightly, and Seattle wouldn't get a useful asset. Ridiculous suggestion, sorry.
I'm sorry, did Klefbom announce his retirement? I must have missed that, last I read he was confident the problem would be fixed and he would play again.

Kassian 50% retained is 1.6 for 3 years. Less in cash, especially if you do the deal after his bonus is paid. I'd probably look at him around that number.

I think there was a news release by the Oilers that said he wasn't going to play this season.

And then realize that he is 99% useless and move along.

I want Kassian to be an Oiler forever. He is 'Peak Oiler.'

He got his ass handed to him, looked like an idiot, the people of Edmonton identified with him, he 'inexplicably' got an insane contract and now there is buyer's remorse.

He is the personification of a brand new White Dodge Ram.

I can see that but that doesn't mean he is retiring. He is still signed for next year. Nothing else has value coming out of Edmonton, worse case he sits on LTIR.

Yeah, I'd probably rather have Hathaway, Lawson Crowse or Austin Watson at $1.5, come to think of it.

Right, but the post you responded to didn't mention retirement, just that he was on LTIR for the year.

The post I responded to said that by taking Klefbom, Seattle would not get a useful asset.

And an asset that’s sitting on LTIR for a year is a useless asset. Actually hurts you a bit

Right, so I guess Nikita Kucherov is a useless asset because he sat on LTIR for a year. Tampa should throw him on waivers.

How? You are saying if a player has to miss a year he is a useless asset. If he is still under contract after that missed year your assumption is ridiculous. Are you saying Klefbom is a useless asset if he can resume his career? I mean he is an Oiler but still...

Kutherov came back and played. He didn’t miss a year. Kelfbom didn’t come back and play.

Klefbom is most likely done. At the very least he’s not playing this year. So that’s going to be two full years of not being in the NHL. There was no benefit to the Oilers with him being on LTiR last year.

I’m all for Seattle grabbing him, as I don’t think he’s going to play again. But if they want grab a player that will be 2 years removed from the NHL in hopes he can come back in his final year on his contract then all the power to them.

Edit: since you ninja edited your post. No Klefbom isn’t a useless player. I’m saying I don’t think he’s coming back ever.

Being over the cap in LTIR means that your daily cap hit doesn’t accrue like it would normally. Like how at the dead line when they say well we have 1 million in cap so we can grab a player worth 4 mil. Yeah that doesn’t happen for a team in LTIR.

So unless the player can make a miracle comeback and be ready for the very first day of Playoffs. There’s no advantage. And Klefbom didn’t come back for playoffs, and I don’t think he will either.

Yeah....like that ever happens.

LTIR isn’t some magical cap room (unless he was planning on coming back for the playoffs)
And he’s not playing this year either. Oilers will need to be over the cap to ice a full roster.

It was just gaslighting what his fair value should have been, so when he signs a ~ 5x4.3M deal somewhere else the plebs will think it was an overpay.

Larsson is 2 years younger than Tanev was last year when he signed his deal. I suspect general valuations of Larsson today are similar to Tanev 1 year ago (before he proved himself awesome here).
