One more reason the Kraken will likely take Gio. They are in our division and it's too their advantage to take him just because they hope it will make our D corps that much weaker. Thats a good reason alone, hurt you're competitor if you can for free.

On the other hand that would give Trelivng an extra 6 mill to make a trade and actually take a bit of salary on the trade. So many good players available and so many teams in cap trouble that would love Calgary to give them a 2-4 Mill "bailout" to sweeten a deal. If its a good enough player taking Gio may back fire on Seattle.

There are some good players available.

They should be competitive year 1.

I also think it could be a weird situation for Seattle to take Giordano because it could backfire on them in a couple different ways.

What Gio will give them is good stability though for the one season or maybe two.
We're going to see what Ron Francis is about as a GM.

Dougie Hamilton is a UFA so what if they end up with Gio and Hamilton. They have a lot of interesting players and combinations to choose from.

Seattle will have an interesting choice between Niederreiter and Bean from the Canes.

Noticed that too.

And an abundance of choice from Tampa. Somewhat local kid Tyler Johnson or Yanni Gourde?

Gio would be an excellent mentor for Bean.
I would take Bean because if you can develop him the kid has immense upside. He's just been stuck behind a deep Canes blueline.
Nino is what he is - a streaky and flawed offensive player - who would probably post career numbers with more ice time on an expansion team.

Eberle and Josh Bailey are both interesting from NYI too.
Eberle is the bigger name but I'd be tempted to take Bailey

No real choice.

Take Gourde, and later get Tampa to send a pick to you if you really want Johnson.

Johnson has been available with some sort of pick for ages for free.

Agreed, Bean is the logical pick.

If the CF simulator is correct they have to pick 20 players under contract, they have to pick 14 forwards, 9 D and 3 goalies. That could impact the Gio situation - if they’re running heavy on D picks by the time they get to Gio.

Seattle very well could be a playoff team.

Duschene, Gourde, Price, Giordano, Bailey, etc….

He has a hefty NTC though...he refused to waive last year.

If they take Price, I think they take as many good proven d-men as they can. If Price isn't taken, then I think they go for a more balanced roster of young unproven players buried on their teams' depth chart.

Looking at Francis' history as a GM, I think odds are better for the latter than the former.

I'm still laughing the Oilers have the Keeper of the Code protected. Whether they had to, or wanted to (even worse), it is freaking hilarious. Mind you, They really don't have anyone else.
