I'm in favour of a Hyman signing, but why would anyone want to build from free agency? It's a recipe for overpayment and long straddled contracts. Hyman is underrated as a two way player. Really good for the second line. Don't overpay in price or term.

I can’t see Tarasenko as the main piece in a Tkatchuk trade. It would be an awful return.

Yeah, Kyrou would be the "long term" piece there.
Not sure I'd like it either to be honest. Just trying not to be a homer.

Not enough for Tkachuk. Now if both Kyrou and Thomas are included and Tarasenko's medical report indicates a full recovery then I am interested.

If you win a Cup you aren't going to care as much if those contract hurt you in 2026-2028 either. If you don't win a Cup though, you become the Sharks I guess.
Maybe silly season is getting the better of me, but if the Flames aren't going to tear it down (which they aren't) maybe you go hard for those two, and if you get them spend the rest of the summer trying to move Tkachuk and maybe even Johnny too if he won't sign an extension.
Tkachuk for Tarasenko and Kyrou or Thomas
Or you could keep Chucky and have him play RW I guess.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Tarasenko
Landeskog - Lindholm - Hyman
Mangiapane - Backlund - Kyrou
M. Lucic - D. Dube - Ritchie
Hanifin - Tanev
Edler - Andersson
Valimaki - Mackey
Markstrom
Backup
D's a little scary, but that's really good forward group.
Try to get a cheap vet to help with the overall youth of the D, someone like Edler should come fairly cheap. Other names like McCabe, Oleksiak, Vatanen, Benn etc.
|
You could get a first in that Tkachuk deal but I like the idea and IMO you shouldn’t be afraid to be the sharks someday because when you are so bad it’s obvious you need to do one thing and that one thing is what we all want to do even though we aren’t that bad is it really bad?
Plus we won’t be Sharks bad because the contracts will be shorter term by then. Sharks issues are years remaining on their guys contracts not just their age.

That'd be great and all, but I just don't think they'd get three of STL's top 9 forwards for Tkachuk, especially when two of them are under 23 and controlled.
Tarasenko, Kyrou OR Thomas and Dunn might be possible, but who knows.
I think I'd be OK with that as long as Tarasenko is healthy, as you said, and Tkachuk doesn't seem all that interested in an extension after July 28th.

Boring night shift.
I'm a proponent of the Flames making big changes myself, but here is an AGM with minimal changes to take another crack at it with Sutter at the helm...
ED selection -> Giordano
UFA signing -> Landeskog - 7 years x $7,000,000 AAV (get the Swedes to band together and sell him if he makes UFA)
UFA signing -> Martinez - 3 years x $4,000,000 AAV (other options Oleksiak/Barrie/Suter/etc)
UFA signing -> Raanta - 1 year x $1,500,000 (or similar goalie)
UFA signing -> Johansson - 1 year x $1,500,000 (or similar player)
UFA signing -> Rodrigues - 1 year x $1,000,000 (or similar player)
UFA signing -> Stone - 1 year x $750,000 (or similar player)
RFA signing -> Dube - 1 year x $950,000
RFA signing -> Valimaki - 1 year x $950,000
RFA signing -> Mackey - 1 year $850,000
RFA signing -> Gawdin - 1 year $750,000
RFA signing -> Phillips - 1 year $750,000
Roster:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
Landeskog - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Dillon Dube - Backlund - Rodrigues
Milan Lucic - Johansson - Ritchie
Gawdin - Phillips
Hanifin - Tanev
Martinez - Andersson
Valimaki - Stone
Mackey
Markstrom
Raanta
$1,100,000 cap space
Meh lol
I don't see a scenario where Treliving makes zero trades but whatever

The cap doesn't exist in Tampa, Toronto and Vegas.

If Hyman is getting $6 mil per with max term offers, not a stretch to give Landeskog that much.

I'm curious if the leafs are realizing that Marner, though a tremendous talent, is still overpaid for what he brings, especially outside the regular season.
I wonder if they'd prefer to use that money on a more gritty top 6 winger than on a high-skill, smaller/softer guy like marner?
A guy like Landeskog, hmm, Tkachuk???, would really round out that top 6 in my opinion.

Schwartz's point per game in the last 5 seasons: 0.71
Landeskog's point per game in the last 5 seasons: 0.84
Intangibles, size, durability and all, I'm not sure Landeskog is worth the extra 4+ mill per season and the 3 or so extra years of term.
Looks like Landeskog wants to win while getting paid. Can't blame him.

I think Toronto likes Landeskog's playoff performances. He's excellent there. Especially when compared to Marner. So it makes you wonder what their plans with Marner are.

Idk if people here don’t think NRD is credible, but the Kuemper talks are getting hot apparently:
@NHLRumorsDaily
I don’t know about “a lot” of deals but the Kuemper market is hot right now. We’ve heard about the #LeafsForever and #GoAvsGo, but I’ve been told that the #NJDevils sent out feelers, the #LetsGoPens checked in, and of course the #SeaKraken are looming. #Sabres need a goalie too.

I believe it. Kuemper being shopped has been reported by several other notable sources too. Seravalli mentioned the Avs & Leafs as front runners yesterday.
