Help, save, whatever.

How can he play an entire season+ playoffs and then be like I'm too hurt to ever play again?
I understand being banged up and maybe needing surgery.
But what is this vague "he has always had a bad ankle and now it hurts too much"? Any player could literally do this when they get older.

You know well LTIR was not designed for players to get paid when the value of their contracts drop below the value they feel they are worth being compensated for to play. You are being purposely obtuse in this thread as you are in the other one where you are said I was lazy to call the North Division the worst in hockey but you won't commit to saying what division you think was better. Grow up.

I know being a Leaf fan you haven’t seen a lot of will to win the cup, but there are a lot of players out there who really want that.
They are paid to put their bodies on the line to win hockey games. We beg for Flames players to show up and be physical and block shots and do whatever it takes to win. But when a player inevitably caves to injury you #### all over them? You guys sound like babies.

I wasn't the one who allowed contracts to be front-loaded. If it were up to me, players would get salaries equal to their cap hit each and every year.
LTIR was designed the way it is because the NHLPA will never accept non-guaranteed contracts. Since you cannot cut a player who is physically incapable of ever playing again – you have to wait for his contract to run out – the league purposely extended the LTIR rule to cover such cases.

I am not being obtuse. I am talking about the facts, and you are talking about a conspiracy theory in this case, and your own unsubstantiated opinion in the other. Grow up yourself.

The local media is reporting that he wont be protected in the expansion draft as he is expected to miss the entirety of next season, and potentially longer.
Seattle is seeing Nashville (Arvidsson), Minnesota (Dumba), and now Montreal (Chiarot) mess with their plans

How many jobs can you retire and still get paid? If you want to get paid you keep working. Easy concept.
|
Most jobs that injure you to the point you can no longer perform them have to pay you at least something.

It would certainly make sense for him to take most of the year off and try to Kucherov back if the team is in the hunt.
It would kinda suck for NAS to feel repercussions for a deal they didn't draw up themselves. Had they not matched, would it have been four 1sts, or was it the tier below that?

Maybe. Somehow I don't see the Habs as the kind of powerhouse team that can easily make the playoffs with one of their best players gone for the year. By the time Weber is medically cleared to come back (if that happens), it might be too late even to make it into the playoffs.
As I think everyone is tired of hearing by now, I don't buy the narrative that the North Division was especially weak. But it did have the advantage of having only seven teams. Instead of being better than three divisional rivals, they'll have to beat four just to make the dance.

How? Easy. Weber knew he didn’t have much left, and he emptied the tank to get his team to Game 5 of the Final.
Now he’s done. He’s not getting surgery and rehabbing another foot injury just for it to get obliterated again when he blocks 100 shots next year.
He’s getting surgery so he can comfortably walk to the 1st tee.

Technically, he would not retire. He would be placed on LTIR each year.

Most employees have long term disability. If I am unable to work due to injury, sickness etc. I get paid until I am 65.

Apparently not every organization can have Robidas island where older players with larger cap hits who can't cut it any more are just disappeared.

Due to injury.
Hence LTIR.

What are the odds that this injury is being exagerated in hopes Seattle won't take him when hes left exposed?
Obviously there IS an injury, and I'm sure with proper research Seattle's staff can figure out exactly where he's at, but perhaps a little gamesmanship to deter that research?

Weber is a 35-year-old defenceman with a cumulative cap hit of almost $39.3 million from now to age 40. If I were GM of the Kraken, I wouldn't take his contract on a bet.

#### that these guys are millionaires, just stick a few more screws in there. Actually, swap it out for titanium! Make sure that ankle makes it till he’s 42 because some other NHL team is going to get away with some cap savings, from years ago, and they didn’t even win anything, and the NHL has already put restrictions on +35 contracts… but forget all that and make the monkey dance!!
/s…. Obviously.

I’m not sure of the fuss - retirement or LTIR he’d be off the books.

No true for Weber. Nashville and Montreal face recapture penalties if he were to straight up retire.
