I'm hoping for Sillinger but if they take Lucius or another player in the consensus top 20 you just have to have patience. If a guy like Kent Johnson slips to 12 would you be disappointed they take him over Sillinger? The only way I would be disappointed is if they reach and pick a player that's not a consensus top 20 player as then you are hoping the Flames scouts know better than everyone else which brings higher odds of failure.
My assumption is that Power, Edvinsson, Clarke, Hughes, Beniers, Johnson, Eklund, and Guenther are gone.

I think someone will take the goalie too.

Is Lucius better than Sillinger?

There’s always someone slipping . They’ll have a chance at a ‘higher rated’ player

Bazal and Connor slipped quite a bit but we traded the pick. I can see the same happening

I will be happy if they can get one of the centers that have high offensive potential.
In order of preference

Sillinger
McTavish
Lucius

A great player slipping into our range and then we trade the pick.
I can see that happening as well.

That's been the historic top tier but it's likely shifted a little since. And I agree the goalie is likely going to go top 10.
So the question is
- Does someone slip
- Slip enough to the Flames
- And a guy they would like

I maintain that there are two slippage candidates: Edvinsson and Guenther. I think Wallstedt could also be there.

I think Johnson could conceivably slip to 12 as well (although doubtful).
Yeah Edvinsson and Wallstedt give off wildcard vibes.

As for Guenther, I don't think any CHL forward who was 2 points per game in their draft year, and who was over 6'0 tall, has ever slipped out of the top 10. At least not since the 1990s.
So unless this is some legendary draft, or Guenther has huge irredeemable holes, I don't think he gets anywhere near 12.

I’d love for one of those guys to drop. I just don’t see it.

Can’t see Guenther getting past Vancouver or Ottawa (max).
Can’t see Edvinsson going past LA. Buffalo, Seattle, Anaheim, NJ, Detroit, and LA could all use a LHD.

Probably but all of his 12 games though that’s a big projection

If Johnson slips I doubt he goes past Vancouver.
And you are probably right about Guenther.

And ended up with Lindholm (#5OA) and Hanifin (#5OA in the same draft as Barzal and Conner).

Yeah those trades were not bad. i think the Flames come out about even, Barzal is probably a little bit better or equal to Lindholm. Fox and Ferland for Hanifin is about right considering Fox doesn’t want to sign with us and Hanifin has been some what inconsistent

For someone to slip, who are the likely candidates to go early in the top 11?

Lysell? Lucius?

I think the 8 I mentioned earlier, the goalie, and MacTavish are gone in the top 10.

#11 is the pinch point.

I'd add Cossa. Lysell, Sillinger, Lucius, Ceulmans (RHD is a premium asset now a days) and Cossa. Those would be the jumpers. All it takes is one teams list to upset the apple cart. Hell, Lambos can go up there too. It's a pretty D market after the big 4. If teams prioritize d men, other two top 20 ranked d men could jump too.

And honestly, with so many teams looking at goalies I can see both Wallstedt and Cossa going top 11.

Said it months ago, Johnson won't get past Vancouver. He grew up a Nucks fans and apparently they love him. Match made in heaven.

The only way I see Johnson falling past Vancouver is if someone like Clarke or Guenther also falls to that spot.

Vancouver probably wouldn't take players like Sillinger, Lucius, or McTavish over Johnson. But they might take guys like Guenther and Clarke over Johnson.

If Guenther somehow falls we better be sprinting to the podium. I doubt it too. I would actually endorse trading up for Guenther if that's a realistic option in the mid top 10.

I think there's going to be an opportunity to trade up to 10. Feels like Ottawa at this point are pretty open to moving around the top 15.

But that would likely depend on who is sitting there at 10 when the time comes.
