Put on LTIR for 4 years when you are not injured? A player also needs to agree to it. Plus of the player is even partially insured, the insurance company needs to sign off on it.
Say what you will about Kucherov, he was injured and had major surgery.

Look, not everyone can become debilitatingly allergic to their equipment.

14 million in dead cap space for three seasons!! Unbelievable.

I guess they'll be going all-in next season.
This should allow them to protect Dumba in the expansion draft.

"In 2022-23 the two players will count for almost $13 million against the cap. In both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, the two players will leave the Wild with a cap charge of $14.7 million. "
that's just crazy to imagine that hit. going to be interesting to see what their plan is.

Hossa actually had eczema for years. It only became unbearable the moment he was only set to take home $1 million a season for the remainder of his contract but at least the Hawks and Hossa had a bit of medical history for their charade. You have to have the player willing to not play again and some sort of documented condition you can hang your hat on.

Yep. And by the time you're in your 15th year of playing hockey professionally, just about everyone has something chronically wrong with them that they "just can't play through anymore". I was being sarcastic. It's mostly about everyone being on the same page.

Might as well trade everything and hope for Wright or Bedard.

Players wouldn’t agree to it. Now they get bought out and get to go sign new contracts and make more money while still playing the game they love.

There has to be something more to this. Bill Guerin has to be able to say he did all this to at least acquire eichel at the end of the day. Smart money has to be on them acquiring him. If they did all this only to re-sign Kaprisov, it will probably be the dumbest buy-out move in NHL history.
To Buffalo:
1st round pick
Marco Rossi
Matthew Boldi
Matt Dumba
To Minnesota:
Jack Eichel

Both guys will likely chase cups now, signing 1 year deals with contenders to be depth players IMO, ala Perry, Spezza, Thornton etc
Maybe Suter gets a multi year deal somewhere though.
Pretty crazy move by Minny. Wow

Wearing hockey equipment virtually every day for 10 months a year for 25+ years seems like a perfectly reasonable way to develop a pretty nasty skin condition.
Do you really think anything that smells like hockey equipment could be good for your skin?

IMO the right solution would have been to buyout Parise and go 4-4 protection:
Fiala
Eriksson Ek
Greenway
Zuccarello (perhaps you ask if he'll waive to protect Foligno who they extended last off-season)
They'd probably lose Foligno or Hartman, but keep their D together, and then you never know if you might luck out on LTIRetirement for Suter.
I wonder how much NYR regret the Lundqvist buyout considering what happened with him.

If Tampa can sign Suter, they may not even need to make a side deal with SEA and simply leave McDonagh exposed.
Suter at 2x1.75M would get them to 2.5M over with a full roster.
Move Johnson/Killorn/Palat for a value contract like Goodrow/Coleman were and they're all set.

These 10+ year contracts are bad when they get to the back end. Bad enough having one, but having 2 really paints you into a corner. Having close to 20% of your cap space being used up on players bought out has got to hurt.
Now that these have been bought out, is Weber the last of those monster long contracts?

Parise is shot but Suter is still a good defenseman. It will be interesting to see where he goes - hopefully Tampa doesn't fit him in somehow.

Jeff Carter on his last year.
Skinner and Bobrovsky are the new version.

Parise will sign for cheap with the Islanders is my prediction (he was almost dealt there at the deadline)
Suter I have no idea where he goes?
