Don’t really think it fits from an age perspective, but Kessel is apparently available as well.

Garland would honestly be my target if we are looking for somebody, and preferably I'd try to get Christian Fischer with him too. Still think there is more of a player there than what's been shown so far.

It's not that Kase hasn't fit in with the Bruins... It's that he's been hurt almost the entire time they've held his rights. Kase is on his way to retirement, whether he realizes it or not yet. Off almost the entire season with a concussion. he didn't even make it through his first game back before what was essentially incidental contact sent him back to the beginning of his recovery. The Bruins desperately need a middle six right wing who can score, if Kase was a viable option they'd be keeping him. He's damaged goods. Might be worth taking a flyer if he's cheap, but you can't count on the guy staying healthy.

So 3 years of Johnson at 3 million cap hit?
Yeah I think I would probably do that. Although I think that makes more sense for other teams than it would for the Flames.

You really need to come to grips with the reality that is not happening right now.

I really think a play driving C in the top6 is of greater importance. Between Monahan/Lindholm/Backlund, that's some decent 2nd/3rd line Cs on a competitive team. Need to upgrade that in my opinion.
That being said, that is a far harder task than trying to get another top6 winger unfortunately.
That's why I'd be happier to see a slight overpay to land an Eichel than go conservative and try to improve via the wing.

Brad's had what, 5 years to find a right winger? He'll probably sign Rico Fata

Wow this thread is a Dog's breakfast.
Kessel, Labanc, and Garland are probably the only mentions seriously worthy of consideration, and even then only if they come much cheaper than some of you are thinking. Trading Monahan for any of the above would be an absolute disaster.

Seravalli added Reilly Smith and Pavel Buchnevich to his trade board.
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/seraval...oin-the-board/
He says Smith might be used as a trade chip to rebalance Vegas' forward group. 1 year $5mil AAV left on his contract.
Buchnevich is on there because arbitration. Arbitration award will walk him to UFA. His arbitration award will come above the walkaway threshold meaning if the Rangers walk away they lose him for nothing so exploring trade options.

If Gio is claimed, I think it would be borderline crazy to prioritize a 2nd line RW over an offensive defenseman.
Other than Gio, the highest point total that any defenseman has had is 33 points (Noah Hanafin in 2018). None of the other defensemen were on pace for more than 32 points last year (Andersson was on pace for 31). Now sure, you can argue that the D-core would be young. But hoping for an elite PP specialist defenseman would be a huge gamble.
Without an quarterback on the PP, I think the team could really struggle to score without an offensive defenseman.
Guys like Lindholm, Tkachuk, Mangiapane, and others, can play RW decently well.
The need there just isn't even comparable to the potential need for offense on the back end. And even if Gio isn't claimed, that need will still be there, because you can only rely on him for so long.

The problem is natural RWs are increasingly rare, and so they cost a premium. I doubt the Flames make a big splash (unless it’s a Gaudreau for Konecny deal), but I could see them picking up a versatile middle six guy like Armia.

I expect Smith would be the ‘something now’ in any Vegas pitch for Eichel.
Smith
Glass/Krebs
Hague
1st round pick

Is that enough for him? If it is then a comparable flames package would be something like:
Monahan
Zary/Pelletier
Dube
1st round pick.
And even then, I like the flames package better.

I don’t know if it’s enough. But Vegas is rumoured to be interested in Eichel, and that at least looks plausible. And I think the Sabres are going to have to lower their asking price to get a deal done.
Smith = Monahan (unless the Sabres are confident Monahan will bounce back - Smith has 79 pts the last two seasons vs Monahan’s 76).
Glass > Zary
Hague = Dube
I don’t know that the Flames pitch would be obviously more attractive.

I don’t think it’s enough.
You’re looking more at:
Tuch
Glass
Lehner
2022 1st
For Eichel. One of the goalies has to go, they both need starting time. I thought Fleury would’ve been the odd man out but once again he’s proven to be the guy that stays. I think Lehner wouldn’t mind going elsewhere, even though he probably would feel a little slighted from Vegas.

I can't see Lehner thriving in Buffalo. And is Buffalo on his list of 8 no trade teams?
Of course, George Vezina would likely not thrive there.

I think the difference in first round picks more than makes up for the Glass > Zary. Flames pick at 12… Vegas picks at 29th.
I think that would be enough for Buffalo to prefer the flames’ package over the Knights’.
I personally believe these two packages aren’t enough for eichel but it’s possible Buffalo does not get anywhere near what they should for him.

Didn’t Lehner start his career in Buffalo? Or was that Ottawa and they traded him there. Did he ever play in Buffalo or am I just remembering wrong?
