Was finally able to finish Returnal. Not a game I would usually play, but I’m happy I did and stuck with it until the end. Really enjoyable overall.
Looking to fire up Village or Ratchet next
Returnal was a love/hate game for me. I finished it and quite liked how the story wrapped up but I feel the amount of time it took to complete runs was just ridiculous. If they make a sequel I won't bother unless they make the runs shorter or add in save points.

Totally agree. I can’t quite put my finger on what kept drawing me in, but I was hooked enough to finish it. Can be a really frustrating game, but very rewarding at the same time.
Well if anyone watched the state of play I can completely understand why there wasn't much notice.... What a horrible showing. The best game shown was Deathloop, a game belt made by Microsoft's Bethesda.
I hate to say it but I'm going to say it anyways and feel dirty saying it; NHL 21 is actually pretty good.
Haven't really enjoyed any installation since the late 00's. But I play most years anyways just to get a couple games in with the updated rosters and whatever, get my hockey fix. But I know it's going to make me angry at some point and than I'll never return to it. I also never pay for a copy. Just wait for the gamepass version which inevitably comes out.
Fired this one up and started out in HUT mode after getting my ass beat in a couple online games as per usual. Was never really a fan of HUT and the online kind of sucks when everyone gets superstar players and I'm stuck with Mikael Backlund as my best player. But the 3 vs 3 is pretty fun.
Than I decided to try Be A Pro. Wow. Can honestly say it lives up to the BAP mode of other sports' games. So much more depth and little details that add up to make it a ton of fun. Previous BAPs were meh. But this one is a big step forward and gives me hope for what the next-gen BAP modes can be going forward.
I cranked up the sliders for hitting, aggression and open ice hits and turned down penalties except for the most extreme cases. So much fun. Reminds me of the greatness of NHL 01 on PS2 back in the day. Made my 6'3" female playmaking TWF a hitting machine who crushes players and headhunts all over the ice.
Never thought I'd see the day I give a shoutout to the NHL series for finally doing something right. The PowerPoint menus still suck, as does some of the cheapness in online play. But ignoring those, the BAP mode is well worth getting into if you need a good hockey fix. The AI is never going to be perfect. But getting the sliders just right makes for a pretty good game overall. I've found myself swearing at the AI significantly less than past years.

It was the game they advertised it around so I knew it would be the best. When they name a headliner the rest are usually just filler that's not really anything to get excited about.

Almost finished another playthrough of God of War, which I played halfway through the first time and gave up, and then started from the beginning again. I really enjoy the combat and the visual style, so it took me a bit to decide what it was that just didn't grab me about the game. I initially thought it was just too video-game-ish, with puzzles and chests and a confined set of areas to explore with similar enemies who vary largely by colour. And that is an issue for me. But I think my main problem is that the entire game just feels too... empty. Barren. Like you got there late, and you're exploring a world after everything important happened a hundred or a thousand years before and you're just sifting through the debris.

This is actually pretty smart. Rather than just having people go buy a used copy off someone and apply a patch they're going to get new players of this to spend 90 bucks on a game that's been out for over a year.

Coles Notes is they turned defence off. Yeah yeah git gud and all that but it’s infuriating. 19 was the last decent year they put out but for five bucks I figured give it a shot. It’s ok but not polished enough that I’d want to invest any time in it. Like all sports games the entirety of the focus is online play and I’d rather do literally anything else than play any sports game online.
I always find it funny how these guys hold the controller
It's actually quite fascinating. I read an article a couple months ago (I think on Kotaku?) that breaks down how holding a controller a certain way gives people advantages to get over some of the physical limitations of moving your fingers fast enough to input commands, and that people are always looking at new ways to be able to input controller commands faster. My mind can't even process the game that fast, so it really blows my mind how some of these guys are talented enough to react to the game when it's going so fast.
