I know this won't happen but here's my dream scenario for this offseason. Can't wait for all the end-of the world, pessimistic circle jerkers who seem to be the only ones on this site these days, ####ting on any form of discussion, to see this and have a fit about it... that's going to be fun.
1. Tkachuk, Zary, 2022 1st for Eichel (thought process behind it is Buffalo is essentially looking for 4 1sts and Tkachuk is worth at least two himself, potentially 2+ so I think this is pretty close.)
2. Monahan, 2nd, 2022 3rd for Forsberg (not sure about this one, but with Forsberg unhappy with Nashville trading Arvidsson, figured this might be a good starting point to get another swede and someone who adds to the shakeup this team needs.
still leaves us with 1st and two 3rds this year, and two seconds and a 3rd next year that can be used to balance trades or used in the draft.
3. Draft Aatu Raty 12th OV (I know not many people will agree with this but, I dunno I think he's the only one available at 12 that has legitimate 1st overall play driving centre upside. As long as they can get him out of his head a little, he could be a steal.)
4. Giordano gets taken in the expansion draft and we use the excess cap space (approx 12m by my quick calculations after proposed trades) to fill in the holes on the roster with quality, steady veterans and sign RFAs. (thinking Dube and Valimki might get similar to Mangiapane's current 2.45M. I'd say a solid 3rd fourth line winger/centre, plus a bottom pairing DMan and a back up goalie are whats needed to fill out roster. I'd love to get Ryan back at a reasonable price for 2-3 years as well as maybe a Hjarmalsson, Demers, or Savard type Dman and maybe Reimer or bring Rittich back.)
Then go into next season with these lines:
Johnny - Eichel - Dube
Mang - Lindholm - Forsberg
Lucic - Backlund - Pelletier
Gawdin/Phillips/Raty - Ryan - Gawdin/Phillips/Raty
random vet min player
Hanifin - Tanev
Valimaki - Andersson
Mackey - Demers/Hjarmalsson
Markstrom
Rittich/Reimer
I think individually, each one isn't too far fetched and could be the shake up we need to actually do something next year.

As long as you ignore player usage, cap and line mates, he’s a great addition.
Of course, you can’t ignore those things.

There's a GMs meeting this week. I'm sure it will be a topic of discussion.
It will be interesting to see if there's more support for changing anything than there was 6 years ago.

Here's Friedman's segment with Bob Stauffer from yesterday: https://omny.fm/shows/oilers-now-wit...-rogers-7-9-21
He talks about the Flames around 14 minutes in. In this segment, he says he hasn't heard about the Flames talking with Gaudreau yet. Less than 12 hours later, he posted his " 31 33 Thoughts" and now says they have started talking.
Also, the mention of Monahan requiring surgery is brief in passing, so I wouldn't take it to mean that it's anything we haven't already heard about.

I like what you’re putting down. Only thing that would make me nervious is valimaki in the top 4. He’s a little shakey for that just yet.
I hope they re-sign Stone for cheap too. He was solid at the end of the year and brings some meanness. Stone with Valimaki on the bottom pair and a free agent vet with Anderson would make me feel better.
I guess Dube on the top line might be a bit of a stretch too. Flip him and Forsberg?

I don't understand what you are suggesting. Are you saying that he wouldn't be effective outside of his linemates in Colorado? What is the evidence to suggest that?
It seems silly to hold it against a player that would be a 1st liner on any team in the league for also playing with other 1st liners. I would counter that MacKinnon and Rantannen would probably miss him as much or more than he would miss them.

My guess is that Friedman was talking out his ass and someone from inside the Flames set him straight.

If you think he’s getting 80 points playing for Calgary, it’s not going to happen.
He’s on the top scoring line in the NHL, playing with two of the best players in the NHL.
Yes he contributes to be sure.
But he’s no where close to 80 points on the Flames.

Just to chime in on Landeskog since it was me who criticized the idea of Calgary signing him, I feel there is no doubt that if you dropped him onto the roster for next season he makes the team better.
Obviously.
He's a top 50 (or better) player in the world.
It's all about what it would take to sign him and how it would impact the roster moving forward that concerns me.
If you make signing Landeskog a priority you have to be prepared to have him as one of your highest paid players for the next 7 seasons.
That is his 29-36 age seasons, certainly at a premium rate given that other teams will also be vying for his services.
Not a prudent move, but again, just my take.

I'm OK with signing Landeskog if you trade at least one of Gaudreau or Tkachuk for a windfall of futures, or by some miracle Eichel.
We already have so many talented and/or pricey left shooting wingers.

I’m just not on board with the infatuation of Eichel.
He’s done nothing since coming to the league except lose hockey games and get injured while scoring at a decent clip.
I see offers like Tkachuk, 1st and Zary and Uhm yea.

Tend to agree.
I think Eichel is a great player, but if someone is buying high on him right now I hope it isn't the Flames.

Saw a slot of the same things being said about ROR when he was on the block too three years ago.
And Eichel is far more talented than ROR.

Lol now isn't buying high on him, now is the opportunity to pay something more reasonable for a young 1st line center. He didnt have a great season and has the injury question marks. Great time to buy low.

Whether the buy (if there is one) is high or low will be determined by history.
Not saying this is you, but a package like Tkachuk, a first and a quality prospect would be as good of a package as I can think of in recent times. I would consider that buying high.

ROR has been one of the best two-way forwards in the NHL since he entered the league. The questions about his attitude mostly stemmed from a single interview where he was unwisely candid about it felt to play on a team that lost a lot.

Whether better or worse it would be a huge core change.
Landeskog signed and Eichel traded.
Johnny, matt and Sean all traded. And Gio lost in expansion draft.

Sounds a lot like Jack.
People are really underestimating Eichel’s abilities, especially when he’ll finally be away from Buffalo.
Buffalo will be trading a franchise center, preferably our west. I hope it’ll be us, otherwise some other western team is going to enjoy him for half a decade guaranteed.

Two teams traded him and fans were saying similar things

I don’t much care what fans say about players. The opinions of NHL executives, coaches, and scouts have credibility.
