Can the members of cp accept a rebuild ? Absolutely
Can fans outside of cp accept a rebuild ? Not sure

Unless a cp member is buying the Calgary flames , I think it’s a moot point.

They don't really have an elite #1 goalie either, and likely don't have one in the pipeline.

They will need to build a really deep and well balanced line up in order to have a legit cup contender, but that will be hard to do when they waste so much cap on Treliving's misses all the time, and with core wingers being due for big raises coming up.

Yes, they should tear it down but they wont.

Our only hope to get an elite C is to trade for Eichel and hope his neck holds up.
D will have to be built by committee, unless something falls out of the sky.
Need Markstrom to hold up as a strong #1 into his mid 30's.

Really seems like a long shot to me.

They should really be able to kick start a rebuild off properly by dealing Tkachuk, Monahan and Gaudreau though, before it's too late. Lindholm would also bring a haul, and then it'd be several years of pain again.

But it's be pretty pain all the time anyways.
Pretty well bang on. They won't even get rid of Giordano so the chance of trading the younger core players is almost zero. Something is wrong with the decision making process in Calgary. The ####ing owners should be embarrassed how pathetic the record has been over the years when u see what Tampa and Vegas have done in much less time.

I would rather watch a team like the Senators with hope for the future and no expectations than veterans under achieve.

Maybe it was the same teams over and over again, maybe it was no fans, maybe it was just an awful season but that was the most uninterested I’ve ever been in a Flames team.

They were 2nd overall the last actual completed NHL season...make improvements/changes but blowing it up now would be dumb IMO

They have a proper coaching staff...lets see how this year goes. If its another bad one then people might have a point about blowing it up. No need to do it this summer though.

I see no need for a rebuild, a retool yes but the team has some good young talent and a top 10 goalie, what is needed is a dominating center.

I hear one might be available

A re-build in my view is out of the question, ownership won't accept it. (i.e. they have hired Sutter....)

They need to redo their core.... 2 of their forwards in the core should be traded.

The low risk, just try to be a playoff team and get lucky mantra hasn't worked going back 16 years (salary cap era). I'm all for tearing it down and aiming to build a "championship" team as opposed to a "playoff" team. This organization will not go this route.

IMHO, we're just a goalie coach away from being a perennial contender.

If they want to re-do the core without getting rid of futures, I’m fine seeing that too. It’s the trading picks and prospects for guys like Eichel that i have a hard time rationalizing with such little in the cupboard.

1. Draft good players.
2. Trade bad players for more good players.
3. ????????
4. WIN!

The fans making up excuses and say "they have a better coach this time, I want to see one more year" remind me of the people who fall for the sign at the bar that says "free beer tomorrow".

It's like the teams motto should be "next year we'll be contenders" but the problem is it'll never be next year.

If it will never be next year then why bother following them? If that is your outlook why would you continue to be miserable about it? Truly, I don't get it.

Ya I don’t get it either. Literally posts the exact same thing in different words 5-10 times a day in various threads. If the team makes you feel this way it is pretty simple to me. Stop watching.

Call me naive but I still like our core. No rebuild. Retool, regroup and keep going for it. Good teams get smoked (ie Avs a few years ago in playoffs) and learn from it, build on it. Bolts got swept in first round two years ago.

I'm absolutely down for a rebuild.

Optimism abounded after Peter's first regular season...then the Avs torched Calgary and its been a downward spiral ever since.

Of the veterans like Monahan, Gaudreau, Gio, they have been in decline since...it might be a slow decline in Johnny's and Gio's case, but I feel that the trend line is down and not up.

Just feels like Groundhog Day with this franchise all the time.

While I have no idea whether rebuilding is going to work, I don't see a lot of hope for this team to do anything other than what they have been doing, which is fighting for position in the 10, 9, 8, 7 spots in the conference and getting eliminated in the first round.

It’s a thread about blow it up or don’t blow it up. Everyone’s entitled to opinions, and just because one shares a harsh opinion on the current state of the franchise and not having the same blind optimism of some fans, doesn’t mean they don’t care. In fact I’d say it’s the opposite.

What’s hard about the current state of things is the divisiveness between the ‘stay the course’ crowd and the rebuild crowd.

The rebuild camp sees a faster path to prosperity through blowing it up. It’s not just rebuild to see the world burn.

I want to see what these guys do with a full year of Sutter being at the helm from day 1. Full training camp, preseason, etc. If we get another year of the same flat results, then pull the trigger on a full teardown & rebuild.

I'd be good with a rebuild as long as they do it right this time. The last rebuild was a failure because they couldn't stick with it for another couple of years, first glimpse of success and they started trading away futures like candy. I'd vote no for now though because it appears that Treliving isn't going anywhere and I wouldn't trust him with another rebuild.

He said it will never be next year. If he thinks things will never get better why would he still follow the Flames? If I felt that this team will never be good I would be out. Probably follow the Kraken or something. I sure wouldn't waste my time getting upset about a team I thought would never be good.
