I'd love to say my hope for Italy to win has gone up with England looking decidedly mediocre and resorting to diving to win, but I just can't see a scenario where UEFA lets England lose, too much money involved to let Italy win.

Was off grid Fri-Sun, and caught up last night.
Previous games;
England over Ukraine was one of the more woodshedding games of the Euro's.
Last night's Italty/Spain Pk's: Morata looked like Anelka in Moscow.
And the game we just watched. The Sterling penalty, was soft. The missed call on Kane's makes up for it. Southgate, needs to exercise his offensive subs earlier.
England were the absolute better side, but my word Pickford -- settle yourself lad.

Feel bad for Denmark.
Fought their asses off after what was a traumatic incident in their first game. And played entertaining most of the tournment.
At this point though the England squad depth showed and Denmark just didn't have the bodies to win in the end (plus some questionable manager decisions).
Has to hurt even more to go out on what was a shambolic penalty.

All this celebrating is gonna have Keano tear into the lads, like Villa staying up.

Beautiful tournament for the Danes, made their country proud. Today the better side won.

You know I would love it if they released the VAR communications after the fact, in the interest of transparency. Would love to hear that discussion.

Honestly if there was a game they wanted England to win it was this one...
They were having trouble selling the tickets for Spain-Italy according to reports and not sure they'd have a better chance of selling a Italy-Denmark final.
An Italy-England final is the most money for sure.

Agreed. How they didn't give the PK for Kane's trip is beyond me. And to award the foul to the Danes. Baffling.

the "they wanted England to win" argument completely crumbles when you see that they didn't give the Kane pen. Wouldn't have been nearly as controversial as the one they actually awarded and it wouldn't have gone to extra time.

The more I watch Kane the more I dislike. Dirty player, diver, but has that English superiority "I would never dive or do anything like that".

I'd have to see it again, but I thought the Danish defender got ahead of him, touch the ball and then Kane kicked the back of his leg?

The foul was called before Kane got to the box. Ref called the foul on the first play where Kane did make contact on the guy that passed back.
What happened after that was irrelevant then.
I'm still surprised that the play wasn't blown dead on the Sterling penalty.
Quote:
“If an extra ball, other object or animal enters the field of play during the match,
the referee must stop the match only if it interferes with play. Play must be
restarted by a dropped ball from the position of the match ball when play
was stopped, unless play was stopped inside the goal area, in which case the
referee drops the ball on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point
nearest to where the ball was located when play was stopped.”
|
Sterling came within like 2-3 feet of that second ball.

Did they only show like one replay of the dive? It looked soft live and I only saw one replay. Albeit I wasn't watching too closely.

I believe in the Jays.

They showed it a bunch after the game, I still don’t see any contact.

It's a bad call but so were the bad calls that went Denmark's way earlier in the game. Reffing in soccer is soft, it is what it is unless they commit to fixing this problem.

Even if there was contact, contact unto itself is not a foul. It was not a foul, it wasn't even particularly close.
