I've been saying this for over a year. I'd love to see them put Monahan on the wing. Less responsibility and allows him more freedom to do what he does best- score.

Only problem is – which wing? There's a logjam on the left. Has he ever even played RW?
It could be something that the coaches have tried in practice and said, ‘Yeah, on second thought, let's not.’

That seems more than a little extreme. He's 31 and had one bad year plagued with injuries.

There is room if Tkachuk stays at RW on the top line and I have said for a long time I think he is better suited as a RW as he scores most of his goals over there.
Gaudreau/Lindholm/Tkachuk
Monahan/Backlund/Mangi

The same forward group as the last 2 years? Better be one hell of a bottom 6 .

Yeah, I think you are correct. I thought he was older. There are lots of goalies available though.

Sometimes he backchecks, sometimes he doesn’t. But, yes, the main part of playing good D is the part that goes unnoticed - playing great position with body and stick such that passes are prevented or not even tried. Monahan is good at that. That’s why Sutter uses him on the PK. Good position, good stick.

Absolutely and when I watch Gaudreau in our end his positional choices are just fine. He's head on swivel on the defenseman, knows when to maybe go down in the corner or go to the high slot and he always knows he has to provide the break out play on the wall. No one expects him to be physical.
The guy is the only dynamic play driver we have.
You don't get better by trading the player the opposition is most conerned about, you try and find another one to go with him.
If the supposed shake up is a top 4 forward to be traded my guess is it's Monahan or Tkachuk. I'm sure Tkachuk would fetch the most but because of Monahans pedigree and that he's a center I don't buy the line he's not worth much. I think you get a pretty good player back for a center who should return to 20 goals and now plays a better 2 way game.
Sutter wants to be deep at center so the only way I see Monahan going is if Treliving does miraculously pull off an Eichel trade or for some other center were not thinking of and then maybe afterwards move Monahan.

For sure. Anderson got a lot of flack this year because he was injured on and off and couldn't get in the rhythm. But he's definitely a top 10 goaltender in the league. Whether it's this upcoming year or next year the guy will get his bounce back and any team that gets him will be fortunate. The Leafs f'd up royally by not supporting him more, and instead going with the hot hand in Campbell, but Campbell isn't starting goaltender material, and the Leafs support was short sighted. Anyway, anyone who gets Anderson will be really really happy.

Interesting / contradictory stuff on 960 this morning. They are talking about the Flames having been in on Josh Anderson (CBJ) and what the ask may have been. Suggested the ask might have been Monahan and that the Flames didn't go through with it. Yet this station has also told us that the Flames were floating Monahan in a number of deals last summer/fall and there were no takers.
So which is it?
Also, in regards to Freddie Andersen, he's totally worth and will get $5M a year.

960 doesn't know what is going on. They get little tidbits here and there, but they are not privy to what is going on when a player hits the market. They don't know. Anything they say is just to get attention and drive ratings.

He hasn't been a Top 20 goaltender over the past two seasons and his Goals Saved Above Expected has been one of the worst in the league. This season he was below Hutchinson. Both years he's been a negative.
If a team is dumb enough to given him 5 million per good luck to that team. I expected a one year deal for about 2.5 as a show me contract.

It's almost as if the fan 960 guys know absolutely nothing. Like I got razzed for saying a few weeks ago. These guys know the same amount about the club as the average user here. Perhaps less lol.

Wanting couture while also wanting to ditch Monahan is mind numbingly stupid.
