The Stampede is going to enforce masks everywhere anyways, I believe.

Here's what the Stampede's site says: https://www.calgarystampede.com/faq
Quote:
DO I HAVE TO WEAR A MASK?
We are encouraging all guests to wear masks; however we will follow the guidance of Alberta Health and the City of Calgary regarding mandatory masks. Stampede frontline volunteers and employees will be required to wear masks.
|
It appears that they'll follow the general rules that are in place. If the city repeals the bylaw today, it looks like indoor masks may not be required for guests at the Stampede.

There are indoor and outdoor events, yeah.

...which they could do without a municipal bylaw if they wanted to.

It sounds like DCU is going to change her vote - which would mean the bylaw comes off if all others keep their vote the same way.

Be aware, that it appears likely that masks will still be required in city owned buildings - at least for the time being - after the mask bylaw is repealed (which is very likely happening today).

Yeah, not thrilled about that. Work is already hard enough, masks make it even worse.

That's even worse. Either repeal it or don't. Now we need to distinguish who owns a building?

It won't be that hard, what city buildings to people go into - City Hall, rec centres, libraries?

You mean the big-ass sign on the door won't make it clear enough?

It would be interesting to see how it would be handled at partner agencies like the Library, Zoo, and Heritage Park - they're not directly City facilities, but they certainly receive a lot of funding from the City.

Woolley says he supports the repeal. Along with DCU, it looks like it will definitely be gone once they vote.

Nenshi supports the recommendation as well. Likely a 10-4 vote in favour of repeal.

Mask bylaw repealed 10-4.
Masks will still be required in city-owned and operated facilities until a new policy can be put in place by the city manager.

Thanks to everyone who assumed I was stupid...
I mean something like the library at the Genesis Centre. Is that city owned? Or does Genesis own it?

I’d imagine City employees would be required to wear them, but not patrons. I really can’t see how they’d have rules for the public be different in certain establishments.

Councillor Farrell opposed the third reading of the bylaw, so council will have to schedule another meeting (today or tomorrow) to read the bylaw a third time, in order for the repeal to come into effect.

Hahaha, these people are idiots. It's really no wonder that the citizenry is so apathetic when you have this kind of childish behavior taking place.

Each business owner will need to implement its own rules. Because the city is the owner of those facilities, they need to set the rules for them.
For the foreseeable future, it will probably be a good idea to carry a mask with you in case you want to go into a business that requires them.
