I take it every morning because it flows so well from west to east. This is going to slow it down considerably and I can see this causing a lot of fender benders in the winter as those intersections will get backed up badly in poor conditions.

Anybody have any insight/ wisdom on Ward 11? We just moved into the ward and honestly don't know much about the candidates. I wanted to see if anyone had any good info while I was doing my own research.

Right turns onto those three roads from eastbound John Laurie can definitely remain open and a right turn out of the communities onto eastbound John Laurie is fine. In order to facilitate westbound access the bridge at 14th should have a U-turn lane to allow cars to get onto John Laurie westbound. Same situation at the new lights at Brisebois with a U-turn lane for anyone that wants to get to Charleswood. With that the city could leave the road mostly free flowing with the exception of one new intersection.

This page kinda highlights how the Roads dept operates. They can just build and build and build with seemingly no oversight. I swear they just install new lights for ####s and giggles over the last 3 years, and with quite dramatic impacts on commutes for everyone.

Is this on any candidates platforms at all? Such an important issue with day to day consequences that seemingly flies under the radar completely.

I presume you mean JLB, Not Shag... but ya, a U turn would work fine, and with the way the turn lights work, it would be no hazard at all.

I could see an argument for 1 light, maybe at Charleswood. But 3? That's insane. The Roads dept is single handily increasing vehicle emissions all over the city. More stop and go, more idling. Good work, guys.

FU Calgary Roads Dept! That's terrible.

So, what do people think that they'll do today with the mask bylaw? I have no idea, and could see them going either way; keeping this in place until after Stampede and maybe through the end of July, or dropping it today and falling in-line with the rest of the province.

The only two that I've seen state things publicly were Farrell and Chahal who were in favour of keeping the bylaw in place. I am fairly sure that Farkas is in favour of dropping the bylaw now. I don't know where the others stand.

I think they are basically forced to drop it because of the province. Maybe they can keep it going for transit. Even if they keep it going it won’t be followed by a ton of people “Kenney says I don’t have to!”

The (seemingly) lack of collaboration on all things pandemic is really disappointing.

Here's how they voted two weeks ago...

I doubt any of those who voted to repeal will change their minds, so it's only a question of whether any of those who voted to keep it will change theirs.

The vote two weeks ago was a tie 7-7 to end the mask bylaw on July 1st. The same 7 will obviously continue to vote to remove the bylaw, so all it needs for the bylaw to come off is one of the other 7 to flip their vote.

Since that vote 2 weeks ago, the province has clarified that it's mask mandate still covers taxis, transit, care and seniors facilities. Which means that those places are still required to have masks even if the city removes its bylaw. This could convince someone to change their vote.

We are also significantly further along in vaccinating with second doses, where we probably have advanced around 20% of eligible in those two weeks.

According to new articles coming out today, city admin is recommending the bylaw being taken off immediately, whereas two weeks ago they wanted to keep it until the end of July.

If I had to guess, I would guess that at least one councillor switches sides and the mask bylaw will end today.

Where did you see this?

The Herald's story quotes Councillor Carra as saying he'll follow the recommendation from CEMA. So, if they're recommending it be repealed, that should switch his vote at least.

The city's administration, which had previously recommended keeping the mandatory mask rule in place until July 31, is now asking council to rescind it immediately.

Disappointing if they repeal today. I liked the end of July, because the majority will then be two weeks past second dose, stampede will be over, and we will have had a few weeks to make sure things don't fall apart.

But I, personally, am now two weeks past, so whatever.

Farkas was not able to coherently articulate any point about why the masking bylaw should be lifted. He just used it as an opportunity to politic and claim to be doing whatever his constituents dictate.

^That can't be surprising, can it? Farkas has shown he's all sizzle and no steak from the moment he joined council. If we get him as Mayor, we deserve the dysfunctional mess that council will become -- and considering the current state of council, that's saying something.

I am really hoping they repeal the mask bylaw finally. If people want to keep masking, then they're free to do so as they always were.

I'm all for the mask mandate until the end of July, especially with Stampede going ahead. Better to be safe than sorry with an event like that, this soon after a pandemic, and with single and double vaccinations still underway. July 31st will arrive in no time anyways.

Stampede is largely an outdoor event, and masks aren't required outdoors, so....
