Nice that bullpen could come in and keep the game close so that the Jays might have a chance to walk it off in the 9th.
Oh no wait, they gave up runs again because it's a leaky pile of garbage mostly. Really shocking.
I'd like to blame Charlie or Dolis, but really it wouldn't matter who pitched the top of the 9th, my bet is the Rays score runs that inning no matter what plug they bring in.

Not only does he suck, but he looks like he doesn't give a flying #### about it either.
One of my least favourite players in a very long time.

Dolis is worth negative WAR, and he is the guy Montoyo points to from the pen, it's just mind boggling. DFA this guy. He is brutal.

Dolis was one of the Jays best high leverage guys last season, unfortunately it looks like that ship has sailed, and coming off a long injury layoff probably wasn't the best time to test him out in high leverage, but Montoyo is an idiot so there is that.

I would have been happy with two out of three before the series started, but it always feels so empty missing out on a sweep.

Truth.
Scary part is when they get guys like Merryweather and Borucki back, how long until they're back on the IL?

Springer hit 2 HRs this series. His WRC+ for the season is 140 (career 135, season was 156 before today), his K rate is 24.6% (career 22, was 21.3% before today). I am very confused about finding his form comment here. He’s hitting just fine, today was just a bad day. As did nearly everyone else on the Jays.
Anyway on the manager comments he can’t just run out Romano, Cimber and Mayza all the time. He has to try some other pitchers. Dolis was good last year not so good this year. But they are going to keep giving chances to pitchers to contribute otherwise they’re just risking injuries. Anyway I know everyone is shell shocked by the bullpen lately but the Jays are actually middle of the road in bullpen stats. If you want to see terrible look at philly or Atlanta. Actually by counting stats like LOB% and era they’re actually somewhat decent, hovering about tenth in the league. I feel people here have some vision of the bullpen as this thing that should not let in runs.

Fair enough. Just the few games I've watched since hes been back seems to be swinging for the bombsand striking out a fair bit.

New team and injuries I'll wait a good 50 or so games to see how the transition goes.

I think fans were always going to be underwhelmed with his production when making 30 million a season. He had a career high of 6.5 WAR in 2019 on a team that was cheating. He’s likely going to be a 4.5-5 WAR guy going forward. A great player none the less but he’s not going to knock your socks off game in game out. But that’s ok. Sometimes teams need to overpay to show a commitment to winning for players and fans a like.

That’s just how FA works. You pay for a players decline years but it’s the only way to get a player of that quality without either developing them or paying through the nose. Just a balance of having a couple of those players along with young ones who are more controllable cost wise. Hopefully Springer and Ryu keep going for longer. Sometimes you get a unicorn who keeps playing at high level through the thirties but that’s rarer in the post steroid era. I’d be ecstatic if he stays at 4-5 that’s a top 20 player. My concern is if he drops in the 2-3.5 range.

The easiest thing in the world to fix is the bullpen.
Another starter, two good relievers and a 3B at the deadline, and let’s go.

Yeah, it's unbelievable that management is willing to give up so many wins with zero attempt to upgrade the bullpen.

They literally just traded for Adam Cimber and Jacob Barnes who have both been lights out so far in the bullpen.

Cimber has looked great so far. I think that’ll be a great pickup for the Jays. The problem now is having a manager who knows when to use them.
There is no excuse for putting Dolis in for the 9th in a close game. Not until he at least has some more work put in to get his confidence up. How a manager can look at Dolis, coming off the DL, with a sparkling 5.5 ERA, and say, that’s my guy in a close game. You Put Romano in there, who has only pitched twice in the last 8 days and give the bats a chance to win in the 9th. If they tie it up and go to extras then you’re playing with house money anyways so then you can throw #### at the wall. God Montoyo is dumb.

I've watched Springer for years. He gives you maximum effort and energy. But when he struggles, he overswings as bad as any MLB player you will see and you wonder if he will ever hit again. But he pulls out of those bad stretches and he always has it together for the playoffs.
You wonder how a giant retirement contract changes any player but Springer has always come across as a guy who loves the game.
