It's Parks. They should know how busy it is because they are there every day . I'd love to see the numbers.

my plan this morning was to log 40k; however, the plan was derailed as i hit the snooze button this morning, and on the last 10k of my ride, i got trapped by a train tying up the crossing on 84th SE, and as a result i waited 15m for teh train to clear. I then felt pressed for time and trimmed about 6k off my ride.

Otherwise it was a stellar morning out there 38.7k in 88 minutes.

The last 2 nights I've gone out at 9pm/8pm for 50km rides approx 2 hours. been perfect to duck into fish creek to avoid the sun and apparently not too many people walking at that time of night either. I think you have to go early or late. everything else is death.

Anyone have a recommended spot to buy a hitch and bike rack and get them installed?

Does anybody have experience with Joe's Garage? The mobile bike shop in the van down by the river?

Thinking of asking him to help change out my road bike rear cassette from 12-25T to 11-32T

Finally caved and bought my kaninaskis pass the other day so i could out to bragg.

Rode telephone, long distance, reconnect Merlin, part of kestrel and then back down Merlin to braggin’ rights….then drove to the sugar shake.

Was misfits time checking out kestrel. It is a mix of buff single track and jank.

Otherwise, the loop above is my favourite, when I have three hours of riding time available.

Tomorrow, the wife and I are planning to ride the spray river loop and part of goat creek. Hopefully the ride does not derail our plan.

Jank hey? That’s terrible. I think. But I don’t really know what jank is.

I did Kestrel to the end and back the other day. A few super steep spots. Maybe that’s jank?

Good loop you did though.

To me jank is that loose rock……I thought kestrel was more downhill than the profile looks on Trailforks. I will have to give it a solid go the next time I ride BR and Merlin as that would make a ride of around 22k (I think).

Red Rock Canyon and Akimina parkway are active roadways without shoulders about 20km each with more elevation. I think 50 km posted limits similar to biking 1A when it’s opened. I can’t remember if the elevations are bad or not. Both are down hill on the way out so that helps.
We went down to Waterton and did the path from the gate to townsite and it kicked our ass. My kid's hated it. It was nothing like Legacy trail as it is much more hilly and has quite a few short steep sections. It was so bad that about a quarter of the way out I turned back and got the car and drove it closer to the town so we wouldn't have to ride back as far. By the time we rode around the town and lake a bit I realized they would not make it back so I rode to the car myself and picked them up in town. We drove up to Red Rock Canyon and that road is basically a death sentence for a cyclist if it is not closed to traffic. Such a narrow road with lots of blind corners and blind hills.

Sorry about that,

I only remember a small hill out of the town then flat to the gate. My wife claims I do this all time and sandbag the difficulty of things.

I have not been there, but I would think any repair shop would have an easy enough time with a cassette swap. Just seeing your previous post and assuming you picked up the 11-32T cassette online? Just in case you didn’t order one as well, you definitely should change the chain at the same time.

I have had great experiences with The Bike Shop south when it comes to drop in service- and with bringing in parts I got online and only need the labor. Their service prices are consistently very good.

Swapping a cassette is easy.

Depending on what you have for a rear derailleur, it may not have a cage big enough for that 32T cog though… and you’ll likely need a new chain

Don’t know where you are based and what your budget is but if you feel like a drive out to the country, I know Big Hill Cycle in Cochrane got a load of Thule T2 XTR racks relatively recently and Hitch Shop Cochrane does a good job. It’s about a 3min drive from the bike shop to the hitch shop so you could easily get it all set up in one trip.

Did the spray loop with my wife today. Perfect day to be in Banff.

Finished the ride at the patio of the waldhaus pub with wings and nachos

I had the exact same bike 3 years ago before it was stolen and I’m pretty sure I swapped in a Sora HG50 9 speed 11-32T without changing the chain or derailleur. In fact I had it done at Cyclopath before they changed their name to The Bike Store South. I think I’ll call to see if they still have my service history on record to confirm that it works.

I still can’t find the cassette in stock at any store locally or online but Joe by the River said he had a 9 speed 11-32T in Shimano or SRAM in his parts bin. That’s why I thought I might as well bring it to him.

heads up to anyone who likes to hit the canal to chstermere. the pathway under glenmore is flooded, the water was almost up to my hubs. my feet were obviously soaked. i think you could likely walk over this by walking on the caged rock wall, but i was clearly not thinking hard yesterday.

as a complete aside, my gravel bike has a shimano 105 set up with a 50t front ring. seems that some rivet fell out of the ring yesterday and caused a couple of teeth to bend. i was able to make a roadside repair by using a rock to gently tap the teeth back into somewhat of an alignment; however, from what i can see in the internet, it seems that buying a replace ring may be a challenge - however, i will call the bike shop this morning

Strava geeks: Strava clocked me at 234 km/hr on a 45st SW segment. Thus, I am KOM. Needless to say, that's way off. How the hell do I fix that?

Edit: Never mind. I figured out how to flag the activity, thus removing me from the leader boards.
