No debate here, but they aren’t changing the name of a trophy.

Plus, he told the Flames about his attentions two years before he would have gone UFA. He didn't pull a Vesey, Schultz, Hayes, etc. The Flames got assets for him, rather than nothing.
And in hindsight, everything couldn't have turned out better for him. So evidently he made the right decisions every step of the way.
Do I New York has a big advantage over other teams? Yes, but that goes beyond Fox. Do I think the NCAA UFA rules are lame? Yes, but Fox was just following the rules within that system.

Yeah I'm not too mad at him. Flames had the ability to offer him an NHL contract and burn a year of his ELC playing one game a la Gaudreau. By taking this route, he delayed his post ELC contract by at least two years. He is still making his $925K elc next season with bonuses. If he had signed with the Flames, he'd be on a big money contract now.
So yeah it stinks he's not playing for us, but the kid turned down some guaranteed money in order to bet on himself.

You mean like when they changed the Lester Pearson to the Ted Lindsay in 2010?

I think Canadian teams will have to start regarding American-born college-route players as something of a risk, the same way Russian players are regarded.

Really, really sucks that he didn't want to just commit to his drafting team, but as far as college players wanting to exercise their unfortunate rights to go elsewhere goes, he was decent enough to give them a heads up.
I feel like we deserved a better fate for nailing that pick but them's the breaks.

No, I don’t mean like that. Because I obviously didn’t know that.
I stand corrected.

But the Ted Lindsay is the player's association award, not an NHL trophy. And the naming of it was basically because the past prime minister at the time also liked hockey. Pearson wasn't involved in the NHL at all. It wasn't like the Norris named after James who owned, or partially owned, three of the original six.
I doubt you'll get owners agreeing to things that reduces the importance of previous owners outside of pressure due to some heinous act of the trophy's name bearer being uncovered/rediscovered type thing.

Yes, and Erik Erlendsson, not Ferraro.

Francis can’t help but troll the Flames.

I'm surprised Francis gets a vote. He knows less about the league than most posters here.

I didn’t think Friedman or Ferraro would do that.
With no cross divisional games this year, the voting would be difficult. Just no way any of these voters watched all divisions equally.

Pearson didn't just like hockey. He played and coached at a pretty high level (university) for the time. The Pearson/Lindsay award is now an official NHL award (though still voted on by players).
Most of the awards aren't named after owners - they're mostly coach/GMs. But i agree they likely won't change the Norris and even if they did, the same kind of Dmen would win it. I'd be in favour of a Langway award for defensive Dman.

Kind of a bitter pill, but I guess it's better that the Flames scouts found him, rather than being a random guy. Even though he's a dick.
What's his first name again?

We certainly don't need an award named after Rod Langway. And IMO we don't need another major award in general.
Looking forward to when the next player like Orr comes along and revolutionizes the game. Defenseman who won the Art Ross twice and the Hart three times.
