Also, Poirier's HockeyDB is literally just Flames. Look at that hair!

All I can get

I just assumed Kuznetsov would play in Stockton this upcoming season. A number of D openings there.
He seems to have all the tools and progressing well. If he indeed plays in the Q I expect him to be devastatingly dominant.

Sign a guy to a pro contract, start him off in the AHL, just to send him to the worst major junior development league? That doesn't make sense.

He should dominate the Q (if he goes) considering college is better and he even has pro games under his belt

If he reports to the Q I imagine he will be getting 2x the ice time than in the AHL
They had a look at him at that level and probably decided he wasn’t ready, plus once he signs an ELC college is off the table so could be best way to keep him in North America and active

2x the ice time against inferior competition in a league notorious for not playing defense. Would be one of the worst decisions related to player development I could imagine. Yup, sounds like the Flames.

There should be room on the farm for Yan.
It actually looks like a decent development corps.
Kinvall, Kylington, Mackey, Poolman, Kuznetsov, add 2 more AHL vets and bingo bango. That's your 7. That's as of today barring say a Kylington to Seattle scenario.

The most important thing here is to overreact.

So?
Just because he was drafted by the Q does not mean the Flames have to send him to junior. He's not a junior player. He's Russian born. He's played almost two years of college hockey and went pro in the last third of his second year. Who cares if he was drafted by the Q? They have no sway over him nor can dictate to the Flames where he plays.

Whose over-reacting? Pointing out the craziness in a post is now over-reacting? Have the Flames ever made a development decision that was a backward movement for a player that was not dictated to them? No. It would make no sense for the Flames to send him to junior.

Sounds like Saint John are just hoping the Flames will send him to major junior

“We wanted a top 2-way defenceman with size who can shut down the opposition. Yan Kuznetsov is that,” explained Sea Dogs President & General Manager, Trevor Georgie. “We have been very interested in him since he won gold here at TD Station during the Under 17s. He is a horse on the backend. We do not have any confirmation of the Flames’ plans for next season and respect whatever they decide. We are hopeful that he joins fellow Flames prospects Jérémie Poirier and Ryan Francis as we look to make a push next season. It is a risk but for a big reward, and we were willing to take that risk.”

Edit: Apparently Lanny doesn’t think the Flames would do this, while I initially read it as him lambasting them, suggesting they would.
Amended for clarity.

Isn't this guy barely 19? What's the problem with playing a year in junior to further gain confidence? I bet if this guy played in the AHL next year and struggled, same people would complain he was rushed in. Jesus.

No harm for Saint John taking him, but he'll almost-certainly have every opportunity to stick in the AHL.
As long as he doesn't play 10 NHL games, his contract will slide either way... According to CapFriendly, his contract already slid this season, so it won't be able to slide again next year. In that case, they really have no incentive to send him to juniors unless he really struggles in the AHL.
