Pretty sure what happened was that Tkachuk said that he was unhappy with the season, and all SOB heard was 'unhappy'. Pair that with Tarasenko being available in St.Louis and it being Tkachuk's hometown, and it's not hard to put together.
It's even possible, although with Tarasenko's injury history you are looking at Tarasenko/Kyrou/1st as an overpay, since Calgary has no incentive to do anything.

Would Matthew Tkachuk WANT to play in St. Louis? Sure he would.
Laziest off-season "Trade Rumour" angle there is: "[INSERT PLAYER NAME] wants to play in his hometown."

"Might."
Sidney Crosby 'might' want to leave Pittsburgh.
Mark Giordano 'might' want to leave Clagary.
Elias Lindholm 'might' want to leave Calgary.
This rumor is complete BS and is from some joke that wants to get his name out there without saying anything definitive. You either say that he WANTS to leave, or don't say anything at all since you got nothing.
Get outta here with that bull####.

This is definitely getting a lot more play than Jimmy Hayes who said Gaudreau was being moved for Voracek and pick and a prospect last offseason

So, this “rumour” from a dubious source is almost certainly false. I believe the 960 morning and afternoon guys probably do have Flames sources, especially long-timers like Pat and Boomer. Plus, Friedman or LeBrun would be saying something if a trade like this was in the works.
However, IF it’s true (and that’s a big if), it would be Tarasenko plus for Tkachuk and the plus would be a lot.

nothing would surprise me.
what would really excite a player about playing here in Calgary the near future - the chance this team is on the cusp of winning/going on a run? the new arena? the climate? canada's tax laws?
I'd imagine that Matty was really frustrated with his season, and perhaps he was somewhere and something slipped out, or perhaps this is completely made up - hopefully he comes back and is his true self as a player so we can see what we really got

Unless Tkachuk is part of some kind of Eichel trade or other #1 C coming this way, I hope he stays.
But I'm also of the opinion that the whole puck flip and meeting that followed DID in fact wrong a lot of the players the wrong way and created a rift. I guess we'll never know what truly happened, but I have no doubt that was the main cause of Tkachuk's demise this past season.
Either way, good players are allowed to have down seasons at points throughout their careers. I still think MT is a good player for Sutter's system. Only want to see him traded if a true #1 C is coming back, or his contract demands are so outrageous that the team has no choice but to cut him loose.

I actually don't care. I dislike the core of this team so much that there's not a single player I would be sad to see go. I've never been as much a fan of Tkachuk as most here as to me he's a bit of a fraud in that he supposedly wants to win worse than anyone on the team yet he's never picked up his game when it matters, is constantly a distraction with his unsavory antics, and for a guy that you would expect to be trying to do anything to win he sure uses a lot of a lot of selfish "hey look at me" between the legs passes and shots that go absolutely nowhere.
There's that saying about players like this that everyone hates him but would love to have him on their team. I don't really like having a player like this on my team. If he wants out then good riddance.

I’m kind of in the middle of these two. I’m ready for any shake up they want, but they better not misuse a premium asset like Tkachuk in a trade.

I am a huge Tkachuk fan and was the first name I put on a jersey since Iginla. I am not interested in trading him to the Blues at all. I agree with the notion that if he does want out the Flames should be setting the table for that deal sooner than later.
This core needs a huge shakeup. Gaudreau either needs an extension or a trade, Gio could be lost in expansion, and Mangiapane has overtaken Monahan in my opinion as one of the flames current ‘big 4x’ forwards.
The main reasons I am warming to a Tkachuk trade is driven by 2 factors. The first is similar to Gaudreau where I just don’t think he wants to be here. Gaudreau has removed that concern about himself for me so if Tkachuk came out and said “I want to be a Calgary Flame for my whole career” then let’s keep him. The other is the fact a massive shakeup is needed and Tkachuk certainly carries the most value of any flames player in a deal. You could argue Lindholm carries similar value but he is not going anywhere.
I know some Flames fans will like or hate this but I see 2 former Oilers as potential free agent targets. Let’s say the Flames can trade Tkachuk+12th overall+2nd for 4th overall, Holtz, Islanders 1st they get pure futures in a deal but could go out and offer Nuge
And/or Hall a competitive contract. Flames add the 7th OA from last year, the 4th overall this year, and move up another 15 spots from the mid 2nd to late 1st. It is not vastly different than the strategy I wanted them to take last year which was move Johnny for futures and replace the immediate with Hall.

I don't know if there is any truth to Tkachuk wanting out but I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that he is very unhappy in Calgary. He's a young, frustrated guy that has recently been ineffective with his play. He's used to being the guy that moves the needle out there and last year wasn't a good example of that. Plus, he's alone (I think) up here. He can't go out and bond with the guys. His parents are a long way away. He's being told to stay home, stay safe and toe the line. Just an all around crappy scenario for him. I'd be unhappy too.
As things open up again, I bet we see some good positive strides made by this young man in Calgary. Or not.

Players will use the false platitude of "I want to be a member of this team for my whole career" all the time, until it comes to signing the next contract where the only thing that matters is the money they will be making. It is amazing how a player wanted to be a member of team A for his whole career, then as soon as they sign with team B they espouse how excited they are to be a member of the new team and this is where they really wanted to be. It's all bull####, and if you believe any of it you're the type of rube these teams and players prey upon to sell you more overpriced jerseys and memorabilia. Professional sports are a business and the players are fungible assets to the teams, and the teams fungible assets to the players. It sounds great in the media scrum, but the reality is the players are mercenaries who will fight for the side that pays them the most.

Agreed. He talks a good game but has never backed it up (5 pts in 11 PO games). Sell high after only 1 bad season.

Trading Tkachuk is going to turn out worse than Bennett. He's going to be a PPG player and we'll get a bust.

One way that could get Eichel to Calgary is using a third team. If a team like the Rangers, Blues, etc give up a bunch of futures that could be routed to the Sabres in addition to the Flames 1st and prospect to get the flames Eichel
Example:
To Flames: Eichel
To Devils: Tkachuk
To Sabres: 4th overall, 12th overall, Zacha, Zary
Flames get the franchise center, Devils get a top winger to pair with Hischier/Hughes, Sabres get 2 1sts from this year in the top 12, a first round pick from last year, and a former 6th overall pick (same draft as Eichel) who is starting to come into his own but is movable as the Devils are set up the middle with their 2 former 1st overalls

The Sabres have made it very clear they want players back moreso than picks. Though Eichel level players are the only type of return that would make sense.
Trading the 6th highest scoring LW since entering the league at age 23 will be a monumental boondoggle in the end though.
Teams wait for years and years to get players like MT.
Some of this fanbase want to see him elsewhere, and will then bitch about not having a player that good from the draft for another 15 years.
Mind boggling.
At any rate...why this thread exists when the "rumor" was from a very shaky source to begin with and has been debunked by the club through 2 different outlets now is beyond me.
Clickbait for SOB I guess?
