Or here's an idea. With the Confederations Cup now defunct, why not invite the five other Confederation Champs to Euro? So you'd only need 27 European countries and not 32.
So for this tournament, we could have added, Brazil, Mexico, Qatar, Algeria and New Zealand. Then three more teams like Ireland, Iceland and Serbia. That would make a decent tournament and a nice carrot for winning your confederation.

I've always said just invite brazil and the argies and let's do it every 2 years instead of 4
I like Euro cup being the European countries only.
There are enough talented squads here that you don't need to invite teams from the other confederations. Plus it tends to have some more entertaining or exciting finals at times, and can have lots of upsets.
I look at the semi-finalists going back to 1992.
1992: Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden
1996: Germany, Czech, England, France
2000: France, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal
2004: Greece, Portugal, Czech, Netherlands,
2008: Spain, Germany, Russia, Turkey
2012: Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal
2016: Portugal, France, Germany, Wales
Some pretty fun and exciting tournaments with some smaller nations in those groups. I'd rather keep Euro just as European nations and expand it to 32 for sure, or just go back to 16 and make even qualifying an achievement again.

I used to not agree because FIFA are FIFA and UEFA are UEFA and the two shall not cross. But FIFA has now made the asinine decision of scraping the Confederations Cup for a 24-team World Club Cup. Who's going to watch this? Who's going to watch the 6th South American club play the 3rd African club in China? I can't even name 3 African clubs.
Nations are what draw people in. If I were UEFA, I would steal other national teams in an instant because they're not busy anymore.

The talent is enough to boost it to 32 as well just european, others have already posted the teams that arent there, and no team has so far embarrassed themselves
The two tournaments that need to merge are the gold cup and copa america, into the copa Americas
South america gets the extra money from the us market, the us, mexico, and canada seem to be building something up and could be competitive somewhat now, and in a decade or so when maybe they can really compete the tournament has built up some real credibility

So with mount very likely out tomorrow, can jack graelish get a start?
That athletic article today about their 'relationship' doesnt sound promising
Waiting for the one on sancho too
Imagine being so incredibly deep and world class that Jadon sancho hasn't played a minute in 2 games!
The greatest team in the world that must be! Right?!?...... right?!?!
Here's the jam from the Athletic Article. It sounds like Southgate has a case of the Pep's, in that he thinks he knows better than the rest. Makes me miss Roy.
Spoiler!
Quote:
People with close knowledge of the situation have told us:
* Southgate likes Grealish but does not always trust him to do what the manager wants
* They have different ideas about Grealish’s best position
* Grealish’s relationship with Aidy Boothroyd was distinctly poor with England Under-21s
* England’s players believe Southgate has certain favourites in the dressing-room
* Grealish suspects his partying image counts against him
Maybe Grealish might also reflect that he has not always helped to endear himself with Southgate after a number of headlines about various nights out that have left the unwanted impression he is not as dedicated to his profession as he should be. Others, however, will say that it is completely wrong to question how serious he is about football.

I mentioned this in the Canadian thread. This will never happen because the US will only accept if they host it every single time like the Gold Cup. CONCACAF has bent over backwards for the US but South America will not, they have their host rotation and their tradition.

So, Croatia vs Scotland is confirmed as win and in, draw and both are out.
What’s the strategy for both teams if it’s tied late? Impromptu penalty kicks starting at the 80th minute?
Secret coin flip before the game, and the loser has to allow a goal just before the final whistle?
Nothing. You just care if you make it, you don't really care if the other team makes it or not. So if it tied late, both teams just play it really wide open and if it ends in a tie, so be it.
This happened in the last Women's World Cup. Argentina came all the way back to knock both teams out.

This is the correct answer.
Euros should be 32 teams.
Gold Cup and Copa should merge into a 16 team tournament
